and once again, the check is in the mail!..one of these days we might meet up Planetguy..

i hope so. and hopefully THIS check won't bounce!

dane....i've been playing weekends out at the midway truckstop just west of columbia. how far is that from you? you make it by sometime and that offer i made to buy you a drink holds.
I don't think I will be headed that way in the near future, but my twin brother used to go to Columbia to the University Hospital to get heart operated on, and then follow-ups, but think he has basically healed now where they told him he does not have to come back anymore.. few years ago, I could have bummed a ride up there, with my brother..Lynard can vouch for him..

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades..

Besides there is always a music student who will make it their job in life to inform you that you forgot the G root or some such.
(Wet behind the ears kids make me ill)

Owner of the site? Bwahahaaaa that's rich.. I don't own much at all.
I am not a good leader of men because I find it easier to do than explain and I reject the idea of leading by example.

The wolf follows his instinct. Much of what I create is instinct, right or wrong, black or white, up or down, I don't know why. Why is a question I find to be irrelevant and I don't spend time on things that don't need an answer.

I will always be the student and never the teacher. My life's goal is to learn how to use what I have, which isn't much but sometimes it's more than I can handle.

If I owned this site, I would immediately remove all spammers, flower sales, shoes from India, most all of the fluff and advertising morons in training. (I still remember the kid that sent money to that fing entity for an alto sax which he never got) (If you aren't a musician, you have NO business here.)

I'd be an admin.. (cue scary pipe organ a la "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea".) (I doubt anyone would like THAT very much, since my chain mail gloves are lead lined for extra damage. lol)

And most of all, I wouldn't be still on a free membership because I had to decide whether to pay bmix or put food on the table, but thanks for playing.

Vanna, show the gentleman what's he's won to-day !!!! LMAO

(Don't take the box, always go for what's behind the curtain)

(I considered asking for a free, paid membership because I pump this site publicly when I do my thing and direct people here often but at this point, I don't think I need it. In short, "all is well and sometimes you just have to leave well enough alone".)

PS: That chord namer is FOR GUITAR.. they have others but everything I do is based off of the guitar because that's what I understand the most thus far.

oh, i get that. but it's still no excuse for calling a #11 a flat 5th! i mean really, there's need to perpetuate the "ignorant gtrst" stereotype.

us GUITARISTS can do that very nicely for OURSELVES thank ya very much!

Oh I am semi-ignorant/stupid for sure when it comes to some things and some music.

I can play it, but I can't tell you why it is or what the first/second/third inversion is. (nor do I care)

My ear is ok, my theory is piano based mixed with intermittent radio signals from outer space. (and I wouldn't have it any other way)

I had a composition class in college and the prof told me that I would likely fail not coming from a music major background. He advised that I drop his class.

I, instead, audited it and stayed in the class for no credit.
I didn't really understand what he was trying to teach, but I made some fantastic music often right after his class and we became friends.

After the class was over, we'd jam and I met a lot of his "jazz" friends.
They called me "shortwave" as they thought I was tuned into a secret frequency. I called them "the brainwashed few" because they knew so much music that they had difficulty when trying to play impromptu or off the cuff.

I can use any tool but I can't tell you why anything is..the chord names mentioned are a "cut and paste" of what the chord namer spit out, verbatim.

No, and I didn't know what the choices would be...no-no-no-no I wish.. lol

a true polychord

an exercise i give my more advanced bass students is playing a fifth fret harmonic on the "g" and "d" strings. ok, this gives you those same notes an octave higher (with me so far?)....then w the harmonics ringing you play a single bass note on either the "a" or "e" string....now, name the chords that are produced w the added bass note.

it's a great exercise and as a bonus it yields some very cool and useable moves. great for the final chord of a song too.

then, ya can do the same bit for the harmonics produced at the 7th fret, 4th fret, etc

barrel of monkees fun right there, peeps.
a giant barrel of monkeys if they can pull off the 5th harmonic at the fret 3-1/2.. I to this day have trouble doing an open-string harmonic at the fret 3-1/2.. no problems with 2nd harmonic at fret 7 or 3rd harmonic at fret 5 1st harmonic at fret 12

Things are going pretty good.
I’ve been in contact with a few different musicians who wanna do something.
I’ve held off on jammin’ with them until we have something concrete to jam on.
So, I’ve been trying to put some riffs together, here and there.
I work in such a schizophrenic magpie fashion.
I record lots of pieces, strewn everywhere, that I need to put together into something coherent.

One guy in Ferndale is a mutual acquaintance of a friend’s band I used to jam with in the early 90’s.
Small world.
But, he’s doing some Euro Indie pop thing.
Not usually my type of gig.
I offered to play bass with him, on the side, if he needed me.
He seems to be hooked up with a lot of Canadian venues.
So, maybe I can make some extra cash.

Marsha & I are still doing our noisy experimental thing.

For some songs I wanna do extreme time/tempo changes, for a cut & paste style effect.
Sort of a jazz Christmas tree to hang different stuff on.
Other songs are pretty simple, groove-oriented, without a lot of changes.
My playing style depends a lot on what instruments I’m using and who I’m playing with.

Lately, I’ve been messing around with my setup trying to find a certain tone to work with.
I’m never satisfied with my sound.
Marsha calls it my “white whale” I’m always chasing.
I’m always trying out different gear when I’ve got the money for it.
Which isn’t very often, actually.

i've been hitting the vibes real hard the last cpl weeks for an upcoming gig w The BVD's tomorrow.

there's an old saying..."miss a day of prct and no one knows. miss two days and YOU know. miss three days and EVERYBODY knows."

i can sluff off prct'ng bass or gtr w/o any real dire consequences but...i tell ya, i neglect the vibes, and man....it's kicking my ass for my callous disregard and inattention.

next project, i plan on recording some demos of a few original mando tunes that i want to present to bandmates.

if they're not too godawful i might even put 'em up for your listening displeasure. you've been warned.

I have a little tune I'm working on, and its sort of a fusion of Folk and...Hold on... some jazz :)

As soon as i can get something to record a scratch tune on , I'll post it here...

Joined another band learning new songs for them I get 1 maybe 2 rehearsals with the full band and gig on March 8th! I swear I haven't played this much guitar since 1983. My chops are improving leaps and bounds from so much playing. The new PRS makes it fun for sure! I'll be playing 6 gigs a month between the 2 bands and maybe more. :D

Thanks John, I have been so emmersed in learning the new songs I haven't had a chance to get any pictures yet. Back on Feb. 16th I intended to get pictures at the gig even had the wife bring the camera. We were having sound issues (monitors) and we forgot we even had the camera Duh!
This new band takes lots of pictures and video. I can't wait to post some here.

Mostly getting used to recording equipment, and performing again. Got a lot of technique to scrape up on, and tons more to learn after that.

Finally got some time to surf last night and checked out your new music, Jeff. Really great stuff you got going there.

Getting that studio like you want it?

Thanks Ted! Yes I am loving the studio, only I don't have time to spend in it! Playing these cover bands is equally enjoyable! I wore the T-shirt last gig 2-16-13
If you get the chance check out the older stuff I have!
