First one on my BM player.
Or video here: http://youtu.be/2HM51uHZ7R4

Some of you might remember the guitar parts as something I posted a while back about using DI acoustic guitar. I re-recorded the rhythm acoustic using the 2 mic method and the GLS em57s I picked up a month ago, EQ'd the lead part so the piezo sound is less noticeable. First time I have used them, and the tone was equal to what I used to get from my old Shure SM57.
Not much I can do about my vocal tone - preamp, compression, EQ, reverb ...!

The music's good enough, but the vocals are not adequate. I would try to find a singer. You could also check into taking some voice lessons if you insist on singing. Good luck Mike.

nice tune. has an early America feel to it. rough vcls but you likely know that. the bass's intonation bothered me esp when it jumped up for the higher notes. and while i have my red pen out...you might tighten up some of the percussion too (congas or back of the gtr...whatever you used). good recording of the acoustic(s).

The guitar sounds great, good job recording to my ears.

Geez, you should have heard the vocals before I re-recorded them (despite the cold I had!) Wish I could find a singer who would do my songs - for free! Any volunteers?

The congas were done with my keyboard, wish I had some real ones - you just can't do the same things on plastic keys. I tried it with a basic drum track before and didn't like it, so added the congas, than tambourine and shaker (actually a moracca).

I agree with Jimmy, it sounds like YES until I hear the vocal.
Don't be upset, I don't think many people's vocals are all that including mine.
(grimace) Just do the best you can..

Unless I get any volunteers here, I've got one possible singer to see if I can cajole - he's not a rocker, but this tune might be within his abilities, he sings in a capella groups.

Singing lessons won't help me now - 35 years of smoking, and many years of exposure to all sorts of pollution in a manufacturing plant have not done any good to my sinuses and throat.

Maybe you could go for that growling Tom Waits or Howling Wolf tone.

I thought you and Tammy were working together?

Dane brings up a good point, I bet your voice and another voice would make a really decent combination or duet type thing.

Yeah, we've been doing some collaboration, but only on her tunes - I'll ask her!
I've got the flu again, maybe I'll try to re-record the vocals in a breathy high Jon Anderson style this weekend ...

Okay, give a listen to the new mix - let me know if I should continue tweaking the mix (real quick job last night), or just wait for a guest vocalist!

Vocal is much improved...Seems that's a better register for your voice. It makes the harmonization work better also.

Wow that is a little different but I like it.

Getting into "Emerson, Lake and Palmer" territory now..

Not sure it's 'in my range' ... but the flu/cold thing I've had going for the last 5 weeks really seems to have done some interesting things to my vocals cords.

When I wrote this song, this was the range that I 'heard' the melody, but after recording the vocals a number of times, I wasn't happy with the sound at all (I was singing it too hard), so tried the octave-down thing - which obviusly didn't work. Time to delete all the online copies of that!!

Thanks for listening, back to the mixing board. Had some issues with the timing when I went to add the drums, and didn't want to go back and record everything again to the new drum track. Trying the EZ Drummer Nashville sound pack, nice organic sound.
