The latest scams-
No longer by foreigners.. now made in america!
They troll job sites, monster, craigslist, careerbuilder, etc..
They grab resumes from sites that store them...
Sites like CL, or other job sites that don't require memberships, they will post jobs that don't exist- usually in basic office or data entry, or whatever; call you up, do a mock interview, tell you they are interested in hiring you and will do a follow-up email. The email them explains that it's a telecommuting job and that you need to purchase the laptop, supplies, etc to do the job, and will be reimbursed. Needless to say if you follow it thru it's course, you will ultimately end up at western union sending someone $350 you will never see again. Combine that with the fees and penalties on your bank account if you dare try to deposit the bogus check they send, if they ever send anything at all. That's just one scam-
The worst part of it all is that since these are americans, they are much harder to see the red flags you see with foreigners with the grammar and spelling errors. Many of these jobs are listed in local markets and are copied and slightly edited from real postings...
On the phone, they pretend to be 'recruiters', and anyone who has worked in the temp/contractor markets (25% of all americans now!) knows that phone call interviews are standard operating procedure.. so red flags still don't go up.
Some will ask you to fill out the W-2 and I-9 info and give them your bank info for direct deposit.. still SOP.. and then bam.. your checking is cleaned out...
So far my wife has managed to avoid all these scams.. but what is killing me is that this trend has now exceeded 50% of all job listings/opportunities..
Where's law enforcement? Where the hell is the FTC? This is what we're getting with this damned predatory capitalism.. when is enough enough?
My wife just wants to friggin work! Why is it so hard?
You walk into ANY business now, they tell you to go online to apply. Most have deals with recruiters who all play lowball games, and many of which don't pay for months or sometimes never (one owes us $1000 right now, it's been over a month since she worked the job).
Our economy is seemingly falling apart for the working class.
