It appears that joining this site is a waste of time. You pay a monthly fee for the privilege of contacting people via their profile page. BUT if they're not paying a monthly fee, they can't write you back. And the same 6 guys post on this forum, everyone else lurks, posts once or twice and disappears. AND the audio player doesn't work, from what I can see.

I've been successful finding band members on craigslist for the past two weeks. ZERO response here.

Welcome, EllaRose! Will you be moving back to the Boston area? Good job filling out the profile, just add some tuneage (audio or video) and you're all set! If you're going to be moving, that will make it hard for anyone to commit to any long-term (local) project with you.
Why do some people not have any music posted? Most likely because they have none! Same thing I'm finding out while searching for a musical partner(s) - and typically if they don't have anything recorded or video-ed, they are not up to my level is what I've found.

Jesse - you get what you put in. No music posted on your profile. Non-paying Bandmix members CAN message back to paying members, but the fact is if they are non-paying, and/or don't have contact info in their profile, they may not be checking here regularly. If Craigs List works for you, great, so far it hasn't for me!

I've put in plenty. Daily scourings of profiles, messages sent to prospects, videos posted on my profile and plenty of info. This site just doesn't have enough active members, and as this new member noted, has features that don't work in all browsers. When a website charges a monthly fee for access, it needs to provide some kind of benefit to the user, and should work in IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

Well now you know why most people try this place out for free before deciding to try the pay service.
These forums are separate from the profiles, and typically not used for the purpose of seeking bandmates (and you don't have to pay to post in these forums).

Well, one doesn't have to pay, and I'm GUESSING serious people will get the hint (most, hopefully) to add contact info (serious people DON'T always have the money). IMHO the membership fee seems a bit high for some depending on where we live and our genres. I didn't find anyone to "pursue" while browsing so far, for instance.

I was able to respond via the site (I don't pay) but apparently there may be an occasional bug, it seems. (I was told two message attempts failed, but I'm actually not sure if that was on site or off; my contact "email" is my phone # with the email address extension with the suggestion to text, so it'll go to my text if one posts that way. I haven't tested or triple-checked it AS email. Of course, many would probably simply text. I think. I separated it visually, as I thought that would be at least helpful.)

Perhaps text is not quite "long-form" enough, however it's the quickest way to reach me (hate email, usually screen calls of course - esp. lately 'cause I accidentally attracted solicitors/marketers). And hopefully there's the understanding of expanding, and sooner.

People who post on the forum once or twice may worry about posting too much too soon; I understand that personally. (Don't want to look like I think I own the place or think I know too much.)

Also, perhaps the forums are a TAD confusing. I just realized that the US board is maybe for related topics, and not the only place for residents to post. Oops. I had thought the topic variation and specific discussions weren't quite right. I was quite thrown off by the huge political argument on my second day here; bad luck? I don't know how frequent controversial threads are here, but they can scare people away. (I am NOT going to respond there, haha. One reason is I learned from Etsy.com [crafts site and more] not to mix business with "personal" chat, etc.)

The audio player seems quirky. Some songs stream and others direct to other pages. I started using a new tab once I "got hip" so I could read while I listen. Not sure if this is due to different file types???

Perhaps your browser needs a bit of a fix to play the "downloads?" *shrug* I really don't know; I just want to help.

Hi! I really hope to move back AND SOON. I would feel most comfortable doing anything "settle-down-like" - say start a band, or if I wanted to open a boutique, things like that, with roots ... in/around Boston or New England. And I know this limits me.

Ah well but I'm here, as in ON THIS SITE, now though and that seems fine; it seems to be about a bit more than strictly what it's for; for instance chatting on the forum isn't a bad thing. ;-) ... Hope that makes sense.

I'll be browsing my "home" area for potentials some more. Felt a little lost after a while yesterday...

I'm glad to read that Craigslist can work for finding bandmates, but not surprisingly, I'm not sure what I'd post in the local boards or even MA, right now. Maybe not the right time. I could - and will - browse there; I've had it in mind; just haven't started yet.

I'm pleased to see a lot of folks "get" the real world here; varied ages and the "adults" understand responsibilities and things. No kids or anything, but I'm tied to my honey and his money ... or when he has it.

He keeps me fed and keeps me in my pursuit of bliss without too much pressure to keep getting denied jobs, haha. He lets me pursue entrepreneurship and/or music and since job searching depresses me, doesn't always request so much of me. I do actually have mental health issues and no degree or retail experience, oy. Lots of stories there...

So currently he's unemployed, so while that's BAD it means we can maybe FINALLY leave Florida soon.

Sorry, but I don't like it ... and I realized "what I had" in MA. After I met my honey (mission: accomplished - I had run out of MA boys and knew there were potential nice guys here because of friends) I realized I wanted to bring him home. ;-)

Unfortunately we'd have to go wherever and whenever he gets accepted. Eek!! Hah.

Maybe it'll all work out for the best. I'm very optimistic and like to hope things happen for a reason. Years after incidents, I recognize these things. ... Except for dogs dying, they should live 60 years! :-\ ...OT... :P

Good luck, the jobs situation is not great here - my wife's been out of work for 8 weeks now, after getting laid off from the job she had for 6 months (10 weeks unemployed before that).

Online collaborations may be your best bet for music-making at this point.

Yeah, the political postings can get a little crazy over in the general section of these forums! Sometimes provides good fodder for new song themes!

I see peeps complining they get little/no responses here. Sometimes I've had great response, othertimes not so. I live in a semi-rural area, so I figure at some point I've tapped out most of the people into the same genre/thing as me. And considering what most of us spend on gear, string, etc. in a year, you should be able to swing the premium membership, at least for a few months while actively looking for bandmates or bands. This site offers a lot more than a Craigslist ad(iveo, photos, music, bio) - put a link to your bandmix ad IN your CL ad.

Even with a free membership, you can do a lot of damage.

It's all in how you look at it and what you do to augment your situation.

Don't bother whimpering, get out and do something that furthers your own cause.

I haven't found sufficient reason to pay the subscription on here yet.

I realise I only have a poorly filled out profile, but the market in my area for death metal vocalist is so limited it's kind of a long shot getting anyone anyway. I have trawled Craigslist to no avail. We have had a couple of people come along but they always end up trying to do something very different to what we are trying to do.

If I had at least one bite off this site I would most likely pay the subs and put more effort into this profile. But I won't if I can't find what I am looking for.

Plus it bugs the crap out of me that Heavy Metal is the heaviest genre selection. Every idiot who ever played a Nirvana cover checks the heavy metal tab! BM really need to add a check for Extreme metal or similar. Searching for suitable musicians is almost impossible.

If you don't have SOME music posted on your profile, its doubtful you'll hear from anyone that will work out - those with the skills are most likely not going to bother if you don't show your abilities first.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member here. Some of you more experienced members are saying that we should have contact information on our profile. However, reading the Terms it clairly says that "You may not include in your Member description any telephone numbers, street addresses, last names, URLs or e-mail addresses unless specifically requested to." What gives? Are you saying the only way to get benefits from this site is to go against the rules? IMO typing myname at somedomain dot blah is still against the rules. Please advise. Thanks

As far as I know, no one has lost their account over it.
There doesn't appear to be any enforcement of this rule.

both of you stfu..

Are you stupid or just pissed because other people are using resources you currently do not seem to be able to understand.

You remind me of a small child that has to go tell your mommie when someone else has ice cream.

Stfu and make some fing music, you excuse for a musician.

Mike has issues, Alien what is your deal douche bag?
You drinking piss or is your tin foil hat choking out your brain activity?

I sincerely doubt that it will get you banned.

And I have no standing here at all, nor do I want any.
You don't have to worry. And this has nothing to do with anything musical, except you being a dimwit and shitting on other people that may be more productive than you currently are.

Just don't piss on other people's parades just because you feel like you are missing something/got left out on the "free brain giveaway".
(it's official, you did get left out.)

I'm calling YOU a douche bag, chuckles.
(I heard your music, sounds like Mercyful Fate...(wince) but that's better than some, sad to say.)

Hang out>? Are we going out for beers?
I've give you a bruise on your leg for being a bigmouth if we did or worse.
No one ever likes a tattle tale.

Engage brain before putting mouth in "drive".

Blast ME all you want, don't f**k everyone else in your area of effect just because you aren't smart today or yesterday or the day before and she told 2 friends and she told 2 friends and so on and so on.

This isn't your regular sewing circle and the only people you will screw are the ones trying the hardest to get their sh*t off the ground and be productive.

Congrats you boob, I'll send you a complimentary cork for your mouth..it doubles for a dildo if you're into that type of thing.

I hope you are young so it just a question of wisdom or lack thereof.
At this point, I don't really care as long as you don't actively screw anyone and no matter what you do, you won't affect me because I am non participatory in this type of thing not because I think it's wrong, but because it just didn't work out that way.

(glares at Mike) NVM getting pissed at the amount of stupidity and careless talk. You guys should know better and I either you do not or you just don't care about your fellow musicians.
