That material is always useful at another time.

'Discard' as in "not on this album"! I threw out 4 songs from my first CD, based on the mastering engineer's recommendations (he was playing 'producer' at the time, but is also a friend).

Peg

When I listened to your playing I immediately thought of Experanza Spalding. You being a jazz player you probably are already aware of her but here is link just in case.

Big favorite - the girl can smoke on a both acoustic and Fender bass.

Oh yes, Esperanza is wonderful and scary good! I'm also a big fan of Tal Wilkenfeld, Rhonda Smith, and of course the female bassist who's played on tons of hit records...Carol Kaye. Thanks for that link, Mike. I missed that episode of Austin City Limits. I just LOVE that intro she did! 8)

Not all about me. I'm building a stage for thousands to see. Not about me, how about you. Can you see the direction you're shown? Not about me, can you get a crowd blown? Not about me, how's your finger's thrown. Not about me or where I've gone. Not about me, where's your seed thrown? more than that, what have you grown?

like many on here i play a few instruments and so i always have a running list of things i'm "working on"...usually technique type stuff and keeping my meager chops somewhat up.

my new project is learning some traditional fiddle tunes on mando. Mere Mortals (the bluegrass band i play w) has recently acquired a very fine fiddler. i do believe she knows and can capably play EVERY fiddle tune and bluegrass song known to man.

so, it's pretty much been her playing the correct melody and then it's me soloing over the changes ...which is ok but let's face it, that's NOT the same as "knowing the tune" if you can't actually play the melody.

i've been working w this very excellent book "Fiddle Tunes For Flatpickers: Mandolin" and right now i'm working on a medley of a cpl tunes (hmmm. d'ya need three to make a medley?). i pretty much have Old Joe Clark and Sailor's Hornpipe under my fingers and committed to my feeble memory. i'm looking forward to springing the "medley" on the gang.

so, what are you knuckleheads working on?

A very experienced drummer in Ann Arbor seems to be very interested in doing something with us.
He's currently playing in a band heavily influenced by the Black Keys and it's driving him nuts.
He's way more into bands like The Jesus Lizard, Big Black, Ministry, etc. and wants to do something NOISIER. :D
He's also supposed to be pretty good at songwriting.
So, maybe he can help us out in that department a bit.
I need to get out of this writer's block that's bugging me.

He's currently taking care of his mom.
So, he's got a lot of spare time and a groovy practice space without any neighbors. 8)
He wants to meet us somewhere and hang out awhile.
So, we will see where this goes. :)

Most days I think I should just stick to my trusty FENDER Jazz Bass and then there are those days that I wonder about that too!

I got rid of the covers i had up on my profile page to make room (who wants to hear covers anyway) and put up a couple of new songs.

http://www.bandmix.com/peg-lautny/

One with some simple arco bass and a couple of rough acoustic guitar parts called "On The Wane" and another called " 'A' Bass Boogie" after a friend asked me to record something with me "throwing down" on bass. haha. I'm really not much into that whole "look at me" mindset so after I recorded it, I told her "well, this isn't so much me throwing down as it is throwing up!" LOL

i enjoyed the tunes. QUINTESSENTIAL J Bass tone on "A Bass Boogie"! 8)

I am getting close to recording a very POP oriented jazz/fusion track performed on my 20 dollar LOTUS gut string.. hopefully if Adam agrees to record me, I can get him to upload the track to the Dane Ellis Allen BM page..waiting for his reply, I was going to record with Good Literature, but do not think I need a 3 hour block of time to record this basic but hookish track that sounds like maybe Dionne Warwick could sing to if there were lyrics to it... some chords I use will be hard for the wankers to master  :P :D

Gee Dane, on guitar I usually just use major/minor triads w/ occasional full open chords for punctuation.

I guess I suck.

the 10th chord in the sequence is the standard C9 chord that is I suppose, a wanker/shredder might use on a "dark" Metallica passage once in awhile?
