I just had the weirdest hallucination - I thought you'd actually been silly enough to diss Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan!
Nah....couldn't be....must have been something I smoked or maybe I had some bath salts in my skittles.
Sorry to do you that injustice!

everything you know about guitar playing I could fold up and put in my wallet

You get tired of hearing some guitarist wanking out 24 frets of "empty".
I'm finding as I get on in this that the people I admire the most are the ones that can move the soul just a little, but that little left to right is akin to being able to lift a building and move it 3 inches to the side.
You don't detract from their overall musicianship or ability, but it seems vapid the way they play it with so little feeling and glossing over all the notes they play.
You just want to ask them to slow it down a little, like a kindly police officer that delivers you a warning instead of throwing you in the tombs for a parking offense.
And you know by now that if you can play bass well, you just mastered 4 out of 6 strings on a guitar. If you think that is nothing, then you really don't know much about the subject in general.
"Don't bash the bassist, sometimes they do play better than the guitarist".
Those sly videos et al are a decent example, I surmise.
Correct me if I am wrong..

I have had the pleasure to work with some excellent guitarist on many occasions. From that I learned to appreciate their phrasing, soulfulness, their seemingly effortless melding of melody, harmony and rhythm.
You cannot fold it up, because you can not even touch it .. it is clearly so far beyond your present reach that you can not see it.
