Feedback please...my husband is a musician and constantly wishes he had more money to promote his music, pay for studio time (his home studio equipment 'just' doesn't have that same quality), pay for flyers to distribute, etc. etc. etc. I said, "Just hire someone to raise money for you" -- so he added that to the wish list.

Herein my question to you of talent 8) ...if someone approached you wanting to help raise money for your band, would you let them volunteer? Or does your manager handle this for you?

Yes, please send money! I could use powered PA speakers, new keyboards, guitars ....

I don't know of anyone who is going to 'contribute' to any band or solo artist. Lot of fans/friends will support by buying CDs, going to shows, etc, but that's as far it goes.
Even music-related businesses are only going to offer support in exchange for what they can get back - increased business.

Not a lot of benevolent societies who support starving musicians out there. Usually a talented musician starting out has two choices:

1. Get a day job to support his music habit.
2. Find a rich benefactor. (usually with strings attached)

..."Get Real" as they say. S/F Berkeley...East Bay ... there are loads of Independent Studios that may or may not have better studio equipment than your Husband has. Do not waste your time with "volunteers" or "Grant Writers" or anyone who "believes" in the music. Your Husband is among the fortunate to actually have a "home studio". He should use it ... use it to put his music on "something" and then approach some studios himself with them. Studios are actually the ones getting their hands dirty and doing the work.

If your Husband's music is of a high caliber and appeal then it will be so recognized by some of the studios. If it is not then it will also be so recognized. If it is good the studios will know it as they are on the "Frontline". If it is not then no amount of money to promote it short of Obama's War Chest will be able to do so.

There is no need for "Managers" or such parasites. Technology has eliminated their roles since the 70's. Make a deal with an interested studio and include a limited but real marketing plan. Your Husband is quite lucky to have someone like you and the interest you you seem to have.

Vampier - you didn't look at her profile - she's trying to promote this idea as a business of her own.

If you could spend 5 million on a home studio, it'd have to be more like a fortress than a home...

LOL, if some of us spent 5 mil on a recording studio, do you think our end product would be any better?

no jw, the product would not be any better but likely be much worse because if we were designing the studio and had that kind of scratch to blow we'd have big screens, mini bars, swimming pools, pinball machines....all kinds of distractions to keep any work from getting done.
