The only thing I don't miss about gigging is moving and setting up the equipment.

Thats what I always say Mark. We get paid to set up and tear down, we play for free! You guys wouldn't beleive our set up 2 and a half hours minimum. one and a half to take everything apart and load out. If we start at 9pm we usually get to the venue at 5 or 5:30 at the latest!

WTH? Do you bring an orchestra?

I never had much time to set up.
It was often 10-15 minutes, with no soundcheck.
But, we'd get stuck with 3-6 bands at the gigs too.

Mike, I believe Jeff is setting up the PA, whereas most of the places we play have a house PA. I would need a good two hours to set up my PA too because I'm a dumbass, thankfully it just stays at the practice space.

Wouldn't know really. I played some Wedding gigs, playing covers, played a lot of stuff frankly. NEVER EVER been in a conventional cover band.

A lot of folk say my style is like Genesis/Collins/Gabriel and so. But that is just my particular take. I could cover a song, but what is the point? To sound EXACTLY like it, or show that I can do what they did?

Lately I'm listening to Opera a great deal, Pianists, movements and so on. Saw a great concert recently involving an icon here. Totally superb! It's what makes your heart move, your feet dance, but way more important it is what you create for yourself that makes your soul move. any artist will tell you the same. I do not want to make forgeries. I create.

Sincerely.
Chippy

I've tried different models to operate a band on.
It isn't any easier if you try to get the rest of the band to help.
No one takes any initiative and everything kinda meanders until it falls apart.
Democracy in rock bands doesn't work very well...at all.
Benign dictatorship at least gets some things done.

That makes sense...You need at least one guy who is willing to light some fires...then everyone else has to at least be willing to jump on it. I always contend that jumping on it includes owning their respective parts, so I would never argue 'how' they do their thing...as long as its not killing the intended work, and they can remember it later

lol @ Chippy.

(eeeek)

Beware of low flying bullets and arrows, I move my soul so it stays out of the line of fire.

When your "soul" dies, so does your music.

If you want something constructive?

I've always tried to be constructive, not the other way around.
Decide what you want to play. It's pretty tough doing things, waiting for someone to call and take an interest in what you call, 'your musical taste'.
Everyone is different, all tastes not the same. So it's best to be open to change.

I put tons of adds in looking for people, and I have to say I've been pretty lucky over the years. Anyway, I went in with a positive attitude, and it seemed to work.

FUN ~ FUN ~ FUN.

If it isn't fun and the attitude isn't correct, for after all it's tough writing your own material. It isn't worth it.

Maybe I'll find a bunch of guys on my level again soon.
Hope so.

Wishing you luck on your musical journies.

Chippy

They haven't quit and your 10$ is waiting for you should they decide it's not possible, but I always choose the underdog as opposed to the sure thing.
(Have you no confidence in your fellows?)

The question is whether or not you'll send me the 10$ you owe me when they finish it...my guess is you are a "welcher in training" since you've jumped the gun. lol
