As you know, most recently most towns have banned smoking on beaches and parks here because of INTOLERANCE.

Well if you want to carry it that far,,,, I can get ridiculous TOOOOOO.

Why should an obese person be allowed in a public area that may require medical response, under very difficult situation.

Obese people are responsible for more healthcare costs than even,,, say smokers.

Obese people RUIN the beautiful landscape of a public park.
Can you imagine a Granpa playing in waist deep water, with his grand kids,,, cool. Then he comes out a big fat overweight seal. UUGGHH!!!!

This is all ridiculous nonsense I am pointing out,, and the lack of tolerance that as Americans we are being PUSHED to accept.

Wake UP!

Banning smoking in closed areas makes sense.
We've all got to breathe the same air.
Banning it outdoors is just dumb.
I don't understand the mentality behind that, beyond just hatred of smokers.

Mike it is about non smokers controlling smokers. Its not healthy and my tax dollars have to pay for their medical care. I am playing devils advocate there. I believe in freedom of choice having said that I also believe in responsible choice's. In some communities you can't smoke in your car or your own house! Well it's for their own good, yeah right! It is REALLY about control!

It's not healthy to slam your cock in a car door.
But, anyone stupid enough should have the option.
My tax dollars pay for worse stupid sh*t.

That's some funny sh!t there Mike! I use to smoke and to this day I allow folks to smoke in MY truck around me whatever. I use to hate someone saying would you please not smoke. I was considerate of those around me when I did smoke but some people just want to control you that's all it is!

Well, I have asthma.
So, I kinda understand someone asking you to take it elsewhere.
My girlfriend smokes.
But, she keeps a fan running in the bedroom to minimize the effect.
Interestingly, weed doesn't bother me as much as tobacco.

I also don't want to see ugly people, people with warts, people that drink sugared sodas, people eating, farting, playing guitar, singing, kissing, or doing anything that could possibly offend any one.
No babies on the beach,,, suppose some young couple can't conceive and see another couple with a baby.
No more Jews, Christians, or any other religion on the beach. We don't want anything offending any one in a public open air space.

Hell, I would've done the same thing... and I don't even like Andrew Dice Clay.

I smoked for 30+ years, quit 11 years ago. When I walk my dog around the neighbordhood, I can smell from 200 feet away the old lady who sits on her door stoop and smokes (because her daughter won't let her smoke in the house with the kids). If I'm at a traffic light and the person in the car in front of me is smoking with their window down, I can smell it.
When I come out of a restaurant or bar and there is a huddle of smokers 10 feet away, the air is thick with the smell.
You know what? It stinks!
'Mind if I fart?" - classic Steve Martin! fact is, farting is a bodily function that we have little cotnrol over. Smoking IS a choice.
When I think of all the money I wasted on cigarettes - and how many guitars I could have bought with that money ...

I had quit 3.5 years ago, then started back up last spring.. been a battle ever since, wearing the patch right now as it happens.

I get it- why people would want to ban smoking in public-owned places like parks and beaches- it's not so bad outdoors, but we've all been down-wind, so I don't think it's a 'haters' issue as much as just a desire to not be inundated with it unwantedly. Not to say there isn't some hatred out there.. there certainly is, but I can lay blame at the feet of what I call 'ignorant smokers'- the ones who care less about other people and don't make any effort to keep it out of other people's faces.

Anyways.. regarding healthcare- it's a slippery slope, as cigarettes and obesity are the two biggest killers in the country.. and by very similar methods (degradation of health). If you allow people to control one, you now allow them to control both.

When PA proposed to raise cigarette taxes thru the roof a few years back (when they were still priced normally), they cited the reason that it's "unhealthy", and even non-smokers ralllied against it, seeing that it opened up a can of worms- Alcohol, red meat, potato chips.. so much more- also unhealthy, and now also can be arguably taxed like cigarettes, and what do you know.. some major cities have already proposed and tried to over-tax soda and junk food.

The reality of it is that it's a cash-grab. The idiocy of it, now proven with the cigarette taxes, is that once they define a tax, they allocate those tax dollars to a fund or program, and base budgeting off that tax. So what happens as an example- Cigarette taxes go up, they estimate $2Mil in additional taxes, fund some senior program with the revenues. But 15% of smokers decided to quit, so the next year they have to hike the tax again to meet the budget shortfall. Rinse, repeat. Now they are caught in a feedback loop and find themselves in the uniquely hypocritical situation where they have to publicaly denounce smoking, but rely on smokers to fund social programs. Why do you think cigarettes in Philly and NY are so expensive?

Even after being shown the proof, (former) Gov Rendell still signed the tax bill, and thus every year the taxes have gone up since. NOW, they are struggling, as the taxes have outgrown the cost, and too many people have quit, so guess what they are looking at taxing next?

Hmmmmmmmmm

A surcharge for the extra space that fat people require?

A tax on the projected amount of air we will breathe every year?

An abuse tax for people who suffer extreme flatulence from eating Mexican food?

Come on. I know there are more possibilities out there.......

When i quit smoking, I could smell a cigarette a mile away and some of them gave me a headache right off the bat.

PS: they smell like toxins to a non-smoker.
