Then saw the later version of the band about 77 at the Summit (Now Lakewood church) with Coverdale/Hughes/Bolin.

Yod, how many shows did you see at the Sam Houston Colliseum? :)

I don't remember if I ever did. I don't remember a whole lot about those days, though.

I remember going to see the Pin Ups and walking into that huge bass cabinet at Cardi's, thinking it was the bathroom.

Always loved Deep Purple because they just sound great and the organ is awesome...hard to get that intangible quality of the music.

The newer DP leaves me unsatisfied though..that last album just made me grimace.

That first vid of them in Japan was cool as heck.

I saw DP on he Boston Common in 72. Thing was Blackmore was that he didn't like audiences and would often turn his back on them. I remember him tossing his Strat up in the air at the end of the show, letting it smash down on the stage, then kicking it out into the audience. I wasn't close enough to get any part of it, though.

I saw their show in 72. It was Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Savoy Brown in the Swing Auditorium San Bernardino. This was basically a giant airplane hangar with a stage and lighting so the sound was somewhat less than ideal. We didn't care though. We were there and had great seats to see a rock concert at 130db.

I am still a pretty big Blackmore fan to this day and some hear his phrasing in my solos but I claim no credit. Stuff just sneaks in and becomes part of you.

Jeff. Sorry man, one of my all-time best friends was playing in Beaumont tonight so I drove on in. But I'll be in Houston Sunday night. Don't suppose you're playing at Nicks again?
