As a supervisor of a team of experts it is my job to get the most out of each employee. It is my job to observe the work being done and identify the strengths and weeknesses of each person, reward the strengths and challenge the weeknesses. It works very well. Is it not a good idea to do the same in a band? I worked as a three piece, the other two musicians had very little just their instruments and I did my best to provide the equipment they each needed. Monitor systems to microphones the smaller stage only amplifiers to wireless gitar and monitor systems. Not that they owed me anything and I was not trying to buy their loyality, but I was trying to form the group, minimize the equipment and set up time but yet provide excellant quality sound. Keeping in mind the limitations of a three piece still tried to play music each member liked. I was accused of not allowing musical growth.
In today's music world, at least it appears this way around these parts, music is a commodity. Whmoever is promoting the group should have some say as to the direction the group should be going. After all it is the product the promo packages are designed around; such as the manager. If the manager is not promoting the band, well its time for a new manager.
How do you all feel about the need for a sound technician mixing the house sound? (Sound reinforcement).

We learned from a previous bandmate that it's better to just bring our own sound system, mix it ourselves, and any sound reinforcement from the house is kept to a minimum (adjusting for acoustics of the venue).
We've NEVER had a decent mix relying on those bozos at the clubs to do it.
