Really it was a totally different band only with Deep Purples drummer and organ player.

Coverdale, Tommy Bolin, and Glenn Hughes freakin' rocked!!!

I was so upset that I couldn't go to California Jam that year. Caught the Purple tour that year in Houston at the Summit instead. Nazareth opened for them and it's still my all time favorite concert.

I'm kinda grinning at the thought that 3 plexis were a LOT back then.
Jucifer tours nonstop with dozens of amps in small clubs, just a f*cking WALL of amps, reminiscent of the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound.
Black Flag did the same thing on their final tour.

Blackmore would use a wall of Marshalls in Deep Purple sometimes, but I doubt they were all hooked up actually.

I snuck a little cassette recorder in a recorded the whole thing. I still remember Blackmore going crazy on "Wring That Neck", dancing on the poor Strat at the end.

Blackmore would use a wall of Marshalls in Deep Purple sometimes, but I doubt they were all hooked up actually.

You still have the recording? My ears rang for a couple of weeks after seeing Deep Purple, so I'd bet that tape was a bit distorted, eh?

This was Uriah Heep's first tour of the US, and they did 3 encores. But amazingly Deep Purple was even better. The tape actually turned out pretty good, but I loaned it to a friend who never returned it.

As much as I loved Led Zepplin, NO ONE rocked like Deep Purple so that doesn't surprise me a bit.

In the early 70's maybe 74 or so Deep Purple had a concert at the Astrodome. It was rumored that Deep Purple was the loudest band in the world and could drown out a 747! As a result the local television station had reported that the volume could cause structural damage to the Dome. As a result some parents started panicing and went to try and get their kids out of the concert in fear it might collapse LMAO! How does crap like that get started? It must of been the old foggies didn't want the show to go on!
