That thing defeats any reason for even TRYING to call it a TELE! Seriously I want a tele but if and when I get one it will be for the Nashville sound. Really who wants a Tele with a Humbucker? I have never understood that?

and then you get into the h/b equipped teles that are set neck (glued in or neck thru).....the sax player in PLANET JAZZ has a Carvin Tele (nice gtr) w a set neck, shorter CARVIN scale of 25" (i think) and dual humbuckers. they do have coil taps to take it to single coil. nice gtr and you can get CLOSE to tele tones w it but not quite.

the only reason i'd consider dropping a neck position h/b in one of my teles (and i have considered it) is to TRY and cop this tone. key word being "try"....

Yes John 5 has the baddest Metal Tele tone anywhere.

RE: Tube choices (with caution as this may offend some sensitive musicians with "Golden Ears"), I find damn little difference in tone once the amp has been properly biased and volume settings are normalized. Most of the tone differences are heard when tubes are changed but not bias matched, or the new tubes are a little hotter so you can now get the same tone at "5" instead of "6" on your amp. The rest of the tonal differences are extraordinarily subtle IMNSHO.

Some tubes are of very low quality, they fry easily and sound audibly worse (Electro-Harmonix/Groove Tubes comes to mind) but most sound great when properly bias matched and amp volume is normalized. Yes there are a few exceptions to every rule and a few amp circuits out of 1000 might respond better to certain brands of tubes but most don't know the difference and sound great with any quality tube. I think most of the hand wringing and voodoo over high-end vacuum tubes on the net is just hogwash.

I also don't change tubes very often at all. Some guys swap em out every few months. I put them on a tester annually and if all is well they go another year with no problems.

Caveat: I am not an electrical engineer or formally trained tube amp tech. Just an old gearhead who has been gigging with tube amps since 1969. I have owned and serviced 1/2 dozen vintage Fenders along with newer Orange and Mesa amps and I am pretty familiar with a Western Electric circuit which is the foundation of essentially all tube amplifiers.

Others are certain to disagree. YMMV :)
