and the vintage guitar market is down compared to 5 years ago.. so what?

JCP61, why are you being so testy?.. I know the tube market is down, and I'm hoarding every tube that ain't an old TV tube I find at events, and know damn well I won't be selling tubes on eBay for quite some time.. I got out of selling tubes over 5 years ago.. I keep up with buying and selling trends prolly as well as you, if not better, since I make my living doing it..

besides you do not buy a $1500 amp then load it with 30 yo old tubes for premium prices bought from people who know nothing about amplifiers.
just find out these were left behind in the drugstore for a reason.
cause they are junk.

that almost sounds like the guy that needs to spend the $2800.00 for a D-28 when there are $700.00 acoustic guitars that sound as good or better?..by your logic, you NEED to use NEW TUNG-SOL tubes without even considering an alternative setup? makes no sense, until you have tried all the options..

Jeff I guess the reason I keep using such a large amp is the headroom I get out of it for clean sounds, but Im more of a crunchy sounding kinda guy.

If you found a good combination try it at the next gig and see how it does, its a lot of trial and error as far as tone, and what sounds great to me, may not sound that good to you.
