I want to buy software for my computer, to turn it into a recording device. I've looked at the Amiga, Pro Tools, and Fire Wire. The guys at Guitar Center really want to sell me the fire wire. Does anyone have any advice or comments. I want to be able to record multiple tracks (at minimum 16), I want to be able to plug insturments and mics in direct if need be, and I want to then mix and then be able to burn the finished work on CD. Any help would be appreciated.

if money is no object try

fire wire cos it can handle the data stream and its reliable
so if you record 16 simultaneous mic tracks then maybe motu 896hd
you probably need two units connected to do 16 tracks.
and a sequencer like cu base sx or the latest one.
this has the power to mix with reverb , eq delay or whatever to an mp3 or wav file to burn on a CD
or you could get a 10 grand pro tools unit but it really depends on how much you can afford!!!
