Well, both are a hell of a lot better than my own version I recorded a few years back. Two different styles and I do really like them both for different reasons. Jimmy is like the great, great............great liberal grandfather I never had and Jeff has a mullet and lives in Texas which makes him cool in my book. So as no to give either extra ammunition in future arguments I'll just say well done to both!

Haley I was in a walmart one day and King Crimson was playing on the pa, the muzak version.

Yeah, Jeff, you me and Jimmy are getting old, why they put Smoke On The Water on a Burger King commercial and Zep on a Caddilac commercial. I just wonder how many years til we hear Slipknot in the grocery store!

It's Gato & Carlos

...... if scottie needs help making a distinction from Kenny G: http://youtu.be/C7opLhbYPnI ... Gato could blow lines that would scorch the paint right off his starship.

EXCELLENT choice for an example there, vinny! yep...definitely NOT Kenny Gorelik.

you know... i could actually listen to Kenny back when he was playing w The Jeff Lorber Fusion. this before he refined that ersatz sacharine soprano tone and braying tenor that he's now more widely known for.

Was it small, as in tiny, and fairly high pitched? If so it might have been a curved soprano. Next up in size is the alto (think David Sanborn), and next up is the tenor (think Michael Brecker, or John Coltrane when he wasn't playing his straight soprano)

hey lady, perhaps it was a saxonette? I saw a True-Tone Buescher saxonette sell at an auction around 3 weeks ago for $1100.00 .. at the time I thought it was gong for too much, but am now kicking myself in the butt thinking about how rare they are.. 1100.00 was a steal but did not at the time even know there was an animal called a saxonette.. at the time I thought it was a salesman's sample..

LOL I only said Kenny G because that's the only sax player I heard of lately.
(gulp)(I really don't like any horns/brass/that crap)

That and I remember that whack ass album of his, "Good Sax".

He's good for a chuckle.

Jimmy http://www.myspace.com/ruimusik

Jeff http://www.bandmix.com/j-haley/

Let the voting begin!

The only thing that validates that jimmy is EVEN playing is the solo is MISSING and The timing is weak in spots.

I don't even think that is jimmy. :)

It's not me playing, it's Carlos lol.

Glenny you couldn't even carry my guitar case. You are a weak player.

Finally, someone I can pick on that has some balls, not like that planet jerk guy.

I know it's Carlos, that little illegal immigrant boy you have been giving lessons too. What kind of lessons,,,, I don't even want to go there, but I bet they are very liberal.

As far as your guitar case,,, You are one of the lucky few that can still afford one,,,, Now if only you could get a real guitar. Then I would carry your case for you because I would know it wasn't full of shiit.

Now for being a weak player,,, would you please use your college degree and spell that correctly. :?

To spell the proper word it is G-R-E-A-T.

Both are great versions, but I give the nod to Jeff, for similar reasons as PaperDog stated:
Better guitar tone, overall mix of song is better - Jimmy's tone is too distorted and reverby, sounds distant from the rest of the instruments.
Organ could have been brought up in the mix in Jeff's version, but the cooking bass makes up for it. The acoustic in Jimmy's is different, but in the end not right for the song. I saw Carlos do this about 3 years ago. The guy may have 'sold out' (more or less) in the last 10 years, but he is still the master of guitar sustain.

The big difference in my mind is that I played the backing tracks, they are not canned tracks that I soloed over. This is true for all covers I have produced. Check out "Into The Void" or "Red", I play everything but the drums.
