So I get a call from a guy that runs a open mic I go to once in a while.
It was the same one I was at recently where that guy tore up that Johnny Cash tune etc.

So I am talking to him and he asks me if I could come to the COUNTRY night, instead of the ROCK night.

MY eyes get wide and big, my ears pound and I heard ringing. lol
I asked him why I would do such a thing?

He said to me that someone asked for me and made the statement that they thought I would be better suited for C+W night and one of the other more well known acts wants to do a duet.

(I feel like jumping off of a building into a giant chipper.) lol

He was very nice to me but I feel like I was kicked in the face and then punched in the balls.

I told him "this is what I get for playing my music with less effects".

He laughed and said that he liked it the best the way it was presented the last time I played.

I squirmed and told him that I would have to think about it considering I hate C+W.

This isn't Halloween, this is HELL-O-WEEN.

Is it too late to get into motorcycle racing? lol

Crip can tell you all about motorcycles. As far as C & W, grab your crotch and tell him "I got yer country right here".

Capt just think Southern Rock and you got it covered, you can practice doing pedal steel effects on your guitar, it would broaden your horizons!

I played a Halloween (costume) Gig with Mission Imposter last Sat. I got up Sunday and went and sat in with a bunch of country pickers! It was a lot of fun! We were a Pickin and a Grinin and a DRANKIN! I guess you could say "I was in my element"

Country music has a different knack to it. Once you get a handle on it, it really is easier to play.

Oh I may be going to Texas anyway.

Regardless, I can't do Country and Western.

I could probably pull off a combination of acid rock and C+W, but that'd be like trying to make a milk shake with ice Cream and mud. (it might look ok, but it would taste bad and smell exactly like what it was)

If that's what's going on for me, I am going to go back to playing Bass and standing in the back.

Faq it, maybe I am going back to being a supporting cast member.
idk and idc.

Broaden my horizons? Or throw me into a fit of musical depression. LOL

"Melodic Suicide" .. more good band names/lyrics from the edge of reality.

I'd rather play bass for a harder band that sounds like Bush...that's melodic enough.

Kid Rock took a stab at Country & Western music and succeeded he's from Detroit Rock City and could pull it off..

Yeah but I don't really like Kid Rock, never did.

I want it on my terms or not at all.
And if I am to play a supporting role, so be it.
No stress for me AT ALL playing bass, I don't really even need to practice, merely rehearse.

Once you get familiar with a bass, it's like riding the bicycle in that your sound emanates from your brain. The only problem is that when I play bass, I can do nothing else, not even chew gum. The melodic in combination with a timing aspect is almost enough for my fleshy computer to crash for lack of RAM/MEMORY/RESOURCES.

This will not change.

As soon as I hear the twang of the c+w vocals, I just shrivel.

It's like asking me to play piccolo. It's just not really a good idea and I don't care what people want, I only play to please ME>.

If I can't do what I want to do, I'll support someone's music I like.
I won't change musical direction just to make $. Nah faq that.

I have a hard enough time attempting to play hardcore and I thought, rather naively, that it would be easy. (rolls eyes and winces)

Its best musically to be whatever you are, or think you are.

I did rockabilly and some C/W a few times, theres some really good players in country, it teaches you to play cleaner than you would otherwise and annunceate your guitar lines.

But whatever, you know all you need to know, so go for it!

I've been contacted by 2 country music bands looking for another guitarist. One tried to say they weren't really country - but when I looked at their pictures and videos there were plenty of cowboy hats ...

Sure, I could play what they wanted. Would I be bored, restless and ready to move on before making any real money? Yup ... see ya pardner

Don't worry Cap'n there are more rockers than cowboys depending on where you wind up. You'll like it in Texas! After you have been here for a while you'll discover how full of sh!t those folks that run Texas down are! No I'm SERIOUS!
Oh and listening to our accent will keep you entertained until you start talking like us! Then you might be a little pissed off! You might want to brush up on your spanglish. You know all the cusswords in spanish right?
