I've been going the past few months to an allergist for the first time in my life. After becoming very ill and going to various doctors, an emergency room, and specialists who couldn't figure me out I tried the allergist. After a number of very complete allergy tests it was found I have a bunch of food allergies as well as some plant allergies. I'm on a new diet, having given up several of my favorite foods and I'm taking a number of vitamin and mineral supplements. What convinced me of the deadly accuracy of the test results was two events recently.
A few weeks ago I bought some grape juice as I'm not allergic to it . I always read ingredients and this brand looked fine. I drank a glass and started sneezing immediately. I thought it was a coincidence. A few hours later I drank another glass and started sneezing immediately. Maybe I missed something so I read the ingredients again. Nothing I'm allergic to there. On the front label it said "artificially sweetened" which I completely missed. I am highly allergic to artificial sweeteners! Then this morning I tried a few Cheezits which I'm not supposed to eat, because I'm allergic to dairy. I started sneezing immediately.
Anyway, I'm into this diet about a month or so. It's very difficult. It takes a lot of discipline. I still feel dizzy, still am not breathing as I should, but I feel I'm making progess. I don't have anywhere near the phlegm I had this Summer, and hopefully after six months on this diet those food allergens I've been consuming my entire life will finally work their way out of my body for good
Anyway, if you feel like crap find out why. Get DATA on your body. It could lead you to feeling better.

Damn Bob, This does not sound good at all. I dont wanna sound like an alarmist here, but dude, you are practically allergic to everything.. Your body is in Overload on auto-immune. That sounds like a very serious problem. I don't know if chalking it off to mere 'allergies' is the right answer... But then again, I'm no Doctor... I hope whatever it is, that you get better and overcome it.

Most likely the drought and heatwave put me over the top as far as allergies are concerned. The trees and plants in distress and dying put too much allergens in the air for my system to handle. Hopefully I'll get better, if not, well we all die sometime...

Bob, I don't know if this relates to your story or not, but did you know a wolverine can not live further south than southern Canada? I believe it has something to do with their immune systems not being able to tolerate viruses and such inclined to live at more southerly climate?..another thing, Africa was never colonized by the Dutch and English in the interior due to problems with micro-organisms and parasites etc... so it makes perfect sense about locale being a factor where somebody is best suited to.. many move to Arizona with lung problems..since dry air heals lung infections..make good good sense to move if you feel it will make you healthier... if I could sell out without taking a big hit, I would like to try New Mexico, since the pollen here in Missouri is effecting me too..

I've heard that where you are born is a better place to live for allergies. I was born on Long Island and spent about 1/2 of my life in the northeast. Also I'm entirely of Russian ancestry so my body is definitely not used to the flora and fauna of the midwest and especially the climate. Instead of retiring south I'll probably head north. We're thnking about looking into Massachusetts or Vermont, although both states are rated poorly for retirement due to a colder climate and higher cost of living. One place I lived briefly was Knoxville, Tennessee and I really liked living there for the scenery and fishing. That's another place I would check out. We also have to consider my son who's autistic. Therefore the services of a particular state have to be top-notch because eventually he'll be living in a group home.

For a few months, every summer, I get congested about 1 hour after nightfall.
Can't breath through my nose at all.
Born and raised in CT, still live here.
Interesting to hear avout the sneezing . . . I get that sometimes, and almost always when I'm eating.
I'll have to pay closer attention to what food i'm eating.
Thanks for the "heads-up."

P.S.
When someone says "heads up," are you supposed to put your head up and look - and risk being hit, or are you supposed to duck your head down?

Dane's correct, I use local honey to reduce my allergies and IT WORKS.
