I should qualify this.. Whether I believe in the right to burn the flag or not...is irrelevant. Regardless, we have the right. ( So, what I 'think' doesn't really matter). The Better question is... do I have a right to beat the sh*t out of the guy I see burning my flag? Yes and NO!...
The law allows me and in fact insists that I exercise my civic duty to prevent the defacing of government property. The Law 'requires' me to intervene and protect property and life when such property and life is under a threat of a safety violation. Setting a flag on fire in the streets violates fire safety. In that case, It would be my civic duty to put that fire out. The good Samaritan law might protect me if i were , say...to put that fire out by wrapping the violator with it and rolling him all over the ground . Naturally if that doesn't extinguish the fire, the next strategy would be to find a flat, hard object, such as a board, shopping cart, brick or anything that can be used to beat the fire out. As a standard precaution, fire saftey requires setting a re-flash watch. Typically a rake to break up any smoldering ash is used. One must simply try to separate flammable objects and break them apart to avoid conflagration.
So In a nutshell , we are not allowed to beat up people for burning our flag...But we are allowed (and expected ) to put out that fire for the safety of the community. I'm just saying.

I see Canada refused to allow Jones to enter the country today. His latest attempt to cause trouble here failed miserably, he was roundly ignored. We should chip in to buy him a ticket to Iraq where his protests won't be ignored.

As well as very few willing to stand up for such beliefs in front of a Marine Corps base.
