This was in the same sample recording from before. You can tell by the trailing lick that I left in. I cut it out in the other clip because I didn't have the amp set up for a hard driven tone and was using a single pole loaded Strat when I recorded it. When I did it I kicked in a boost for a minute then kicked it off and kept with the clean tones. It does show it's got some attitude even when you aren't really set up for heavy rock.

When set up in British mode with a boost and Lester it is really something special.

What do you think about JJ tubes?

I've never tried them. This amp comes with Rubys. They don't sound bad but they have reliability issues. I've used EH 6V6 tubes in my Vibro Champ for years mostly out of convenience but they sound pretty good and hold up well. I've got a pair of '67 Silvertone labeled RCAs in my Tweaker right now. I really like RCA gray plates. They are really nice sounding tubes and vintage 6V6 tubes aren't outrageously priced like EL34s. I'm thinking about trying a pair of Russian 6P3S tubes out in it. I've heard good things about them in the Tweaker. They are very similar to 6L6 tubes. It gives the amp a little more headroom which wouldn't be a bad thing since it's a pretty gainy amp when you drive it hard.

I tried it tonight in a little slave rig.

It sounds pretty nice at low volume. I'm looking forward to seeing how it sounds turned up a little. Running it this way will let me get the volume up quite a bit. I put the baffle back in the cab that separates the sides so it's got some stereo separation which is nice with the TCE reverb & delay unit.

Back when it still had the original electronics, I used to run my acoustic bass through a Boss AC-3 "acoustic simulator." That pedal sounds cheesy at best for its intended purpose, but worked great as a low-end boost -- I don't think I ever got a fatter sound from an instrument until I bought my EB-0. Now that I've rewired that bass I'll have to see how it sounds with the new pickup...

You asked about the Tweaker 15 head's dirty tone. A dude I was talking to just got his a few days ago. This is his first sit down with it.

By the way, it is that good. It's really good. With the voicing switch in Brit and a single pole loaded Strat through a BD2 with it's controls set to noon I'm in Plexiland. Flip the switch to USA and you fall right into the Bassman zone. Roll back the guitar's volume control to about 6 and knock the bass down a tad and you have modern country. For that sweet mid hump gainy tone in his clip swap the Strat with a Les Paul, replace the BD2 with a SD1, flip a mini toggle from Clean to Hot, set the tone controls and you are there. Put the switch in AC mode, scoop the mids, crank the gain and you are in Mesa territory. I'm loving this amp. I just replaced a $1200 amp with a $300 head and it's mopping the floor with my old Marshall. I think I better pinch myself.
