i was calling the owner of a local club yesterday when she told it was a bad time 'cos she was on her way out.....to attend Dale Sapp's funeral.

last spring/summer i played w him in a short lived group called Sticky Grass. Dale called me around 6 mos ago to let me know he had lung cancer. this guy smoked like a chimney. damn. 56 yrs old. my age.

dale was a killer gtrst who could lay ya out w his strat playing straight ahead blues, and could flatpick an acoustic w the best of 'em. and man...he could really sing!

i'm gonna miss that guy.

here's a youtube video w dale working out on "Salt Creek". kirk webb is on mando.

so, i put up some tunes up on Soundclick from the 2nd time Sticky Grass got together at my place. we were working up some tunes for an upcoming benefit to help keep music in schools.

pretty loose stuff but i thought dale's friends and family might enjoy hearing some of these.

that's him singing lead.

kinda ironic listening to Dale sing "I've Got All The Time In World" and "Can't No Grave Keep My Body Down". also a little weird listening to Oscar our old golden retriever barking away in the background as he kicked off not long after this recording.

Sorry to hear about your friend Mark. Some folks don't understand how close musicians can get as they actually become extended family. You go through so much together the good, the bad, highs and lows! Especially when they are what I call musical soulmates someone whom shairs the same views as to how music should be. You just travel the same path together and then they are gone. It leaves a void that can NEVER be filled because you know the world has lost a special gift from god. Well now they are with God and in a much better place!

Condolences.

As my brother in law was taking his last gasping breaths from lung cancer his kids were all outside the hospital smoking.

Makes no damn sense at all.

Sorry for the loss of your musical friend. My age, too. Glad I quit cigarettes - 11 years ago, now. When I think of all the gear I could have bought with that smoke money.
