Its good to get some outside views because as you know, it's all too easy to get wrapped up in your own work and forget the big picture.
Thank you Craig
You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
And yes, creativity can be a blessing and a curse. In this case, it is a job. So, you are somewhat limited in your creative possibilities, because you have to stay within the parameters they set for you. Knowing you, I would imagine that from the basic melody itself, you could have taken it into all kinds of directions artistically, but alas, you have to stay true to the job's requirements.
A good engineer is like an artist many times. They can assist with arrangements, and playing with pans and effects and everything else they have to work with, they can make the same raw tracks sound night and day different, almost making it another song. I asked a great engineer I know, how he dealt with spending hours and hours on mixing a song down, only to have the artist hate it, and have to start from scratch. He said he learned a long time ago not to be married to the songs he works on. He does whatever he has to, in order to satisfy the client, but once he does, whether he personally loves what came out or loathes it, he forgets it. It's gone, a job completed. He doesn't look back, and just moves on to the next project.
