I have 4 kids and my wife has 2. My youngest is the same age as her oldest. He is away at college. One night after partying he got pulled over and got a D.W.I. The lawyer WAS paid and it was almost behind him. They put a lockout devise (breathalyzer) in his car. He partyed again last week went to bed got up and had to go to work. Got in his car and blew and now they are revoking his probation and he is going to jail for 90 days minimum. We are already paying his rent in college station now we get to pay his car note also because its in my wife's name! Grr

Jeff, I thought that device was there to prevent the car from starting. There's no law (which I am aware of) that makes it illegal for him to drink (if he is of age) and blow into that device with all the fumes of a whiskey vat...
The point of the dvice si to prevent drunk driving, which it did...So no drunk driving - no law broken... I don't get why that counts as a violation of probation

Many times the judge will bar (no pun intended) those convicted of drunk driving from drinking, entering a bar or even being around others that choose to drink legally. I'm sure that's the case here.

You are right Jimmy! He Blew into the lockout devise it wouldn't allow his car to start. because he tried he is gonna get a serious life lesson!

I think we just got away with murder when we were young. Now, given all the new technologies, no one can get away with sh*t anymore. What's sad is they're very hard on young people and they will give them stiffer sentences than older assholes who continue to drink and drive, all the while these judges and such acting like they never behaved in such a way.

Sorry about your son, Jeff. I've really been driving the no drinking and no drugs to my kids. They've seen how my husband's client acts when he's drunk and they think he's stupid, so I think it's working.

What's sad is they're very hard on young people and they will give them stiffer sentences than older assholes who continue to drink and drive, all the while these judges and such acting like they never behaved in such a way.

I have driven the no drinking and driving with these kids all their lifes. First I set the example. When I was younger I really pushed my luck in that area. As I got older and realized how dangerous it is to drink and drive. I ABSOLUTELY will not drink and drive. I like to tie one on about once a week I STAY HOME and drink. The kids see that. My oldest whom is now 31 got a D.W.I. in 1999 he was 19 the same age as the one thats in trouble now. I don't know what it is about that age but a warning to everyone out there with young children "brace yourself cause the WORST IS YET TO COME" My wife has been very upset crying and depressed because 2 of our boys have been to jail in 7 days! She is blaming herself thinking she raised them wrong! I told her DO NOT blame yourself we have raised them kids to the VERY best of our ability! What is the old saying "boys will be boys" Anyway we were told he has to turn himself in today! He went to his attorney and the attorney told him there will be a bond hearing and at that time they will determine when he goes to jail. At this time they are waiting for that so he won't go to jail today. Thats good news!

Jeff I am sorry you guys have to go though this... He's gotta own this and resolve it. You guys did everything right ... The important thing here is that this is a valuable lesson for your son. He'll rise above this and will do whats right in the long haul... Just grin and bear it ...Forgive, But hold him accountable..

I guess thats why the old timers back in the day called it the "school of hard knocks" The boy is SMART he made straight A's all through school without even trying. I NEVER saw him do homework all through high school. Thats what dumbfounds us? You couldn't pay me a million dollars to be 19 again Phuk that!

I only ride motorcycles. More than once I have almost been run off the road by drunks and people who are texting or messing with their devices.

I always hope they get nailed so the roads are safer for others who are not distracted drivers.

I hope he learns the lesson both for himself and for others that are on the road.

seriously stupid...he hangs out with fools so he's just like them now. I'm not going to let any of my kids be crooks...so I'm only going to get him out if he agrees to 2 things


1. Take responsibility for yourself from now on. No blaming anyone else for your problems, no more expecting others to pay for it. (that would fix America if everyone did it)


2. You will get free rent and board for at least the next year. You will work hard and get nothing for it. You are now someone else's slave.

By God's grace you have a choice for now. You are either owned by me; or by the State of Texas.

If you choose to live outside of steel bars, you will move to Colorado to be mentored by your older brother and he will keep every penny you make at the job he will assign to you for paying your legal bills and rent. There will be no partying for at least a year. Sorry, but you have to grow up TODAY, if you want to avoid being a prisoner the rest of your life.

Yod, Sorry you have to go through this... I really think your focus need to be on steering him away from the idiots that he hangs with. Somehow, you got to convince him that they are bad news and a distraction from what he needs to get done in his life (i.e education, job etc) .

I took my son to a rescue mission one Thanksgiving, and we volunteered in the kitchen top help serve the homeless folks all day.

I told my son to pay close attention to his future at the mission. He got the message!
