That's a really fun set Jimmy. You guys cover a lot of ground and everyone will know the tunes but they aren't completely used up in the bar scene. I have done most of them over the years. Synchronicity II is a personal favorite that few bands cover.

In 1975 Van Halen was covering Panic in Detroit and Rebel Rebel. :D

Down by 311 is 'classic rock'? Man, I'm old!

I always thought 'Not Dead Yet' would be a good name for a classic rock band!

So tomorrow night, I'm hired gun-guitar with the acoustic trio I have mentioned here previously. I sing one song in the 1-hour set, 'The Night Pat Murphy Died', a good irish-inspired (by way of Newfoundland) song for ann Irish pub. It's an open mic night, that advertises '15 minute sets' for the open mic. I asked the trio about the last time they played there, and there were only 2 people who showed up for the open mic and they did laid back stuff.
So I figured, unless there is a crowd wanting to play, I'll do an open mic solo set too, but trying to keep it upbeat.

Here's my list of songs:

Tupelo Honey (little laid back, but it's a Van Morrison song, perfect for an Irish pub)
Things We Said Today - Beatles (got to promote my other band)
Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull
Spooky - Classics 4/ARS (tame it down a bit)
When the Bomb Falls - original rocker from my CD
Signs - 5 Man Electrical Band/Tesla

That actually figures to about a 20-24 minute set, depending on how much I talk. I've got a few more mellow songs I can add. Problem for me is remembering the damn lyrics!

Thanks guys. Our rule of thumb is nothing newer than 10 years old. We want to be the group you go to see if you want to rock out with some familiar but not cliche tunes. Hopefully have enough danceable songs for the girls and enough rockers for the guys. I'm excited how this is progressing!

I would definately come see you guys if it wasn't such a long drive home. How is your singer? Can't wait to hear some recordings. You guys going to do a Demo for a press pack? If you do post it! :)

Johnny the singer was formerly in a band called Mango Pie, one of the better cover bands in the Detroit area for many years. He has a great range, and more importantly a lot of contacts at the venues we want to play. Not sure if we'll even do a demo; maybe just go in the studio and have Johnny lay some vocals over some covers I already have recorded. Johnny sang on my "Neon Black" CD which can be found at http://www.myspace.com/ruimusik/music/s ... r=featured
