I have a friend that had a "minor stroke". 3 days ago. Suddenly he is going downhill faster than putting a bullet in his brain.

The only reason why I ask is because, his B/P is being kept high,, 170 over 90 to keep the brain filled with blood. That doesn't seem right.

The other thing is "steroid therapy". It seems this is just causing more swelling.

Am I wrong in my observations? Any thoughts? I know some of you know.

I don't know about strokes. Just wanted to say sorry about your friend!

Glenn...Sounds like If your friend's doc is calling it a mild stroke , he prolly had a major TIA (Trans Ischemic Attack). They are just like strokes, except they go away after a couple of minutes... Usually not very severe

As far as strokes go, if he threw a clot, or a piece of plaque broke off of an artery, That would tap him hard where vessels meet brain/ blood barrier. Blocks oxygen, causing him to have blurry or no vision, loss of control over his left side, numbness in the face, droopy eye, and other complications

If he has embolisms, aneurysms,(Bursting Vessels) then he'd have a hemorrhagic stroke on the brain. THAT one gets pretty severe... Usually wrecks the victim for life, if not fatal.

Statistically, if this was his first, hell likely have another one. Here's something really important to know... When a brain cell dies, it emits certain toxins, which kill neighboring brain cells...You can see where that is headed for a stroke victim... So now, they got a chemical they use for stroke victim called TPA (tissue plasminogen activator) . It prevents that domino effect on the cells. The victim has @ 4 hour window to get to the hospital for this treatment./ The results are astounding. The Caveat...They don't use it on hemorrhagic stroke victims.


If your friend is a smoker, he's either gotta quit now or he will die soon... Same if he's diabetic diet... Comply or die

I'll tell it like I know it to be... I have seen this TIA business before. He gets a pass with a warning slip and an opportunity to change his habits... more Veggies, less red meat, No tobacco, No boozin it up, no couch potatoing it . New lease on life brother! Let the healing begin...

Not being privileged to all his records it would be only speculative on my part.

However I would hazard to guess he has some circulatory restriction of the arteries in the neck or possibly the "Circle of Willis".

Certainly this won't be his last episode. That I can unfortunately nearly guarantee.

One reason for the Low BP might be Diabetes .. Kidneys take all the water out of the blood, reducing volume of blood flow to the heart, which in turn reduces BP. Diabetes is often associated to heart attacks or Ventricular Fibrillation, which can cause blood to pool thus clot and get thrown as a stroke
