Just got done mixing three tunes: Hey Joe, Tore Down and Mess'in With the Kid. Hopefully they will be on my profile page here and my website (Bluefinreview.com). Most likely you've NEVER heard a version like Hey Joe before. Don't know if you'll like it or not, it's definitely different. IMO friggin awesome. I don't do "stock" versions of too many tunes. That's for mynah birds or juke boxes. I can foresee putting these three tunes on a final CD, they are that good. JUST WHETTING YOUR appetite, perhaps teasing you just a bit.

Bob I was thinking... If you do and plan to release a CD, you know that doing covers will rwquire formal permissions etc...

So, Lets say you did Hey Joe, when you find the contact info on that , ask those guys about plugging the single on the Fm scene. I bet the exposure would knock the ball out of the park... Just a thoery...

Putting covers on a CD isn't as big a deal as you think. You do it through an agency, pay them a set fee per CD printed, the fees go to the owner(s) of the tune. We're thinking ten tunes on the CD, including 2 covers. I know a guy who put out a CD with a number of covers. He doesn't even acknowledge the authors of the tunes, it's all legal. He went through an agency. We'll do it all legit, hopefully no complicatons.

I believe it's a per song mechanical license of $250. Harry Fox is the biggest agency in the U.S.

Actually I think it's a small initial fee (less than $250) and so many cents per CD produced. You save more with a bigger run of CD's, but if you can't sell them (and in this economy that probably is more likely) you get stuck. I think the minimum run is either 100 or 500 CD's. For the sake of example let's say it's 9 cents per cover tune per CD and you have two cover tunes and print 100 CD's it would be 2 X 9cents (.18) X 100= $18.00 plus whatever the initial fee is. At least that's the way it was explained to me a few years ago. My strategy of having a few cover tunes is that people who have no idea who we are would have a better idea with the cover tunes on it. It's worth the extra money IMO. Harry Fox is located in NYC and they are really helpful people. I've talked to them a few times and was impressed with the customer service.

Time ie relative.. isnt it? :D

You thought correctly... Today I was hurrying up to wait... for some access privileges that will allow me to actually get my work done. Til Then, I'm swimming in Knuckle-head-ville, waiting for my powers that be, to figure out the bottlenecks that are holding me up..

When that Happens, I seize opportunities like this to help with the emoticons...
:D
