If it were mine, I'd visit him while he's there and get him to make a few commitments before you get him out, and then pay his bail and hold him to it.
If you wait until he gets himself out, this teachable moment will be lost. This solution is more expensive for you initially (he has to pay you back for bail, lawyers, etc) but what is he worth to you?
If he goes back on his promises, both you and he will know that it was entirely his fault and you've gone beyond the most you can do.
If he keeps his commitments you will have saved him from a life of crime and have a fine young (responsible) man there.
By the way, prayer doesn't "help".....it's the only thing that really works.
I'm praying with you, bro.
Its different for everybody.
My mother got the call from the Police on a Friday night near the midnight hour... The conversation went something like this:
Mr Policeman: "...Yes Maam, this is Sgt <Mr> at the station. We have your son in custody. He's been charged with petty theft and vandalism. We've finished processing him and if you would like, you can post his bail and he'll be released into your custody as early as tonight.
Mother: "Oh dear...Yes , yes ...please tell him I'll be on my way ...and I will see him first thing, Monday morning
Mr Policeman: ...Sorry, ma'am? did you say Monday?
Mother: " Yes , Monday...."
Mr Policeman: "I see, yes of course, gettng a flight out is probably difficult on such short notice.
Mother: "No no...I only live eight blocks away from your station.... Just tell Him to think about the trouble he has caused himself and others, and I'll be there to post bail and pick him up Monday Morning...
Mr Policeman: Yes indeed maam, I will relay that message to him. He'll be in detainment until you pick him up...
My brother's words about the jail (and other prisoners) , were " I sure dont wanna go through that again... "
He went on to become a CPA... to which I replied...Haven't you learned your lesson YET!?
