Surely you are joking right? The kid needs a real guitar amp, NOT an EQ.

nope.. i run one thru a RANDALL T-2.. very high gain amp and heavey bottom end.. not exactly known for clean tone.. but this pedal will give you crystal clean tone, dark heavey tone, even sound like an AM radio..

But he wants to sound like Bob Marley, not an AM radio.

what about crystal clear tone or dark heavy tone?.. you only read the last two words of every post? stick to "hands hands fingers thumb" by dr. suess.. it has pictures of monkeys and everything.. some are even drummin on a drum.. of course it has high numbers, like 8 and stuff in it.. it might be over your head.. in that case, there's a felt jigsaw puzzle they make that will probably boost your learning abilities.. lol..lol

The kid wants to sound like Bob Marley and has limited funds. He wont get there with his $44 amp no matter how many EQ pedals he buys. He CERTAINLY wont get there with a Randall T-2.

Fender Twin Reverb with a Fender Tele or Strat would be perfect for Reggae.

I had a Randall 23 years ago. The switching kept breaking down. I liked the tone at the time and have tapes to prove it.

I just checked out the Blackstar,, I wasn't impressed.

I'm gonna have to find a little 50 watt mesa to drag out.

Ain't no way around it,,, Mesa kicks ass. JW is right.

I'm old school. Randall is probably a fine choice for the Metal crowd but not for me. I just don't go there so a Randall is not the ideal choice for my music. Now some might suggest that any amp can do anything if you put enough processing in front of it but I disagree. If the fundamental tones are not in an amp to begin with, processing will move you in that direction but will never really get you there. If I need to drive nails, I choose a claw hammer. If I need to run in some screws, I use a cordless drill/driver. I could drive nails with a pipe wrench or an old shoe but a claw hammer is clean, simple, and purpose built. It just works better.

The amps I choose are centered around the music I play.

My 64 Fender Super Reverb has unrivaled glassy clean tones and does surf, rockabilly and blues pretty well. Not useful as a high gain rig no matter how many OD pedals I push it with. My Mesa F-30 is not as glassy clean as the Super but it goes deeper into American high gain territory. My Orange Tiny Terror is all about British crunch and does a pretty good Marshall vibe but will never really clean up like the Super or the Mesa no matter how far you roll back the guitar vol. or beat it with EQ up front. Really glassy clean tones don't live in that amp.

Different tools for very different jobs. I am sure a Randall T-2 suits your music just fine and there is not anything fundamentally wrong with it, but don't get it twisted... It will never go into serious Bob Marley or Surf Guitar territory with EQ up front. IMO it's the wrong tool for the job. Others will surely disagree. YMMV

Well, not EXACTLY like Bob Marley. But, somewhere close I wouldn't mind. And I'd say my budget for an amp and pedal, if I were to save my next two paychecks, would be $432-460. Not including selling my amp and one of my guitars which could bring it closer to maybe $500?
