"What right do you have to complain"? Come on Samick, what does that mean? Everybody has a right to complain about whatever they wish. What they don't have a right to do is make the purveyors of any given site give them what they want. And I am under no such delusion, or desire, about BandMix. It's basically a good place, which is why I decided to hang my hat here. That doesn't mean it's immune from suggestions by it's users, does it?

And on the notion that free sites attract only musical newbies and dimwits. That is very untrue. I am also on MySpace, which is free, and I belong to two groups there: "Piano Players" and "Composers". The Piano group has some of the most amazing talent I've ever heard on it. The composers group has participants who discuss everything from music theory (on a PhD level, I can tell you) to comparative tonal variations of the post modernists. Yes, MySpace has their teenyboppers, but let's not make one broad sweeping generalization about sites of its type when it comes to musicians.

Irminsul,
Please don't try to put words into my mouth. I didn't call anyone 'dimwits," you did.
I've never insulted anyone, nor will I start.
And - let's keep it friendly, ok?
There's a real lot of us that have been friends, going back quite some time, now.
You're new here, but we like to talk with each other occassionally, and we're all pretty laid-back, and mellow.
.
Right, people?
.
Some of us have been talking with each other for over 1/2 a year. I've been talking about 1/3 year, and so far I've never seen any hard feelings going back and forth between anyone.
.
Jonny, Belle, Steve, BillyRich, Monkey68? How are you guys?
.
Is it just me, or has the tone of these messages changed over the last 2 weeks or so?
.
How about you, Kaleigh, Just De, GuitarBluesgirl - haven't heard from you guys lately, either . . .
.
What have you all been up to, lately?
Alan

Hey my good friend Alan (Samick)! Still here alive and kicking. Been getting really busy this summer with home improv. projects, vacation(s), family, jamming, etc. So I haven't been on the site too much.

As to this thread about people not responding, I have already had several invitations to jam through THIS SITE. Jonny Rocker is one awesome musician who I've already had the honor of jamming with. We just scratched the surface about what we're each into, It went very well and he invited me back. He has an awesome set up with excellent equipment (amps, PA, drums, keys, computer, guitars, etc.). I haven't got back there yet due to my crazy summer sched. but will when I can.

Samick there is certainly no static coming from me toward you - I mean you said it yourself, I haven't been here long enough to do any of that stuff. I just react strongly when I see generalizations being made. Old habit.

Anyway, it's not worth bickering about. I am hoping that this site will be a good resource for me, if not to hook up with locals, then to at least get some long distance colabs going. Thank the Gods for the internet.

Hey, I knew you guys were still around! :)
.
BillyRich - hey, glad you & JonnyRocker got together. I'll bet its sounds cool with you 2 playing together.
-
Yeah, hey, as to getting contacted though this site - I've met a lead guitarist and a bass guitarist though this site, myself.

They have completely different musical interests, and it was fun getting together with them.
The lead guitarists likes the Blues.
The Bassist likes some esoteric jazz, and other stuff.
I played with the Blues guy twice, & he's invited back here.
I played with the Jazz man the other night, and I'm invited back there.
Each has about 1/2 dozen completely different songs of mine that they're interested in working with.
So - yeah, you can meet people on this site. :)
.
Hey - Belle, long time - no see! :)
Yeh it's hot here, too. Usually about 95, and real humid.
.
I saw one of your cover proofs - was that 'Ton Ma,' or another?
.
And, yeah, keep us posted on the book/CD thing. Sounds cool.
And, Belle, be sure to pick up that guitar every so often . :)

and when i read the rules it was very clear embedding your email was not acceptable.

so out of respect to the site i haven't.

hey bmix,
i appreciate your response. i will hopefully get some more responses and knowing about this now will help.

i would like to tell you i met and married a flute player via the ad i placed here back in Oct 2004. on august 26, 2005 we married :D

funny thing is when she first contacted me, she emailed me. she explained it was the only way she could reply to my ad, which meant she had to upgrade, so i am curious has the reply feature always been there, or is it something that came along after oct 2004?

anyway i ended up with a great flute player AND a wonderful wife to boot!

still tryin to find that guitar/vocalist though

thanks,
rob

p.s. is the upgrade annual or one time thing?

i was once told drummers were a dime a dozen and that really talented ones could be had by the truckful the only problem all of them have is showing up to rehearsal   a drummer told me this

the music biz is a tough racket fo sho. i have often thought about just settin up a system that would play my rythm trax or lead trax eitherway and just goin at it like that.

but the truth is like coke cola .. nothin like the real thing.

not sayin the digital music set up or songs are bad mind you (lawd knows i have tons of tunage i have done this way) but there are certain instruments that should never be digitized.

1. Any stringed instrument especiallly the cello
2. certain drum kits (there are some that don't sound too too bad)
3. any wind instrument

i should add unless the song is an electronic piece.

anyway i will have to prolly take out a paper ad and hang some things round town i reckon. i focus on original material. so the other thing i need is someone who will be patient while i learn some of the standards

i never got into covers for a couple reasons couldn't do them justice and i just don't get the same satisfaction out of doing someone elses song as i do with my own or collaborations.

well im off to try and figure my way around here mo betta 8)
