nice.

I could be wrong, but I believe it was Duane Allman who said "If you don't like the blues you have a hole in your soul".

IMHO, truer words have never been spoken...

If that is the case, my soul must have looked like swiss cheese at one time, lol. When I was younger I do not remember liking it all that much, now I am more fond of it (Not heavily, but I like it). My favorite blues artist is probably Eric Clapton. Brian May said about Clapton: "His fingers are directly wired to his soul." I could not have said it better myself. Long live the blues!

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

jesus well why dont you all just take me out at dawn and shoot me like the rabid dog that i am... all i said was im not a big fan of "the blues" i never said it was wrong or even bad i would never knock any style of music but i know what i like..you have to remember im from IRELAND we have our own blend of folk that carries the same sentiments as blues but we dont call it blues...we sang songs of lament and sorrow due to the "troubles" ie terror at the hands of the british, much in the same way REAL black blues music sang of having nothing, so dont ever make the mistake of thinking us irish dont know about the "blues", and that should clear up that matter.

Shame on you Anthony! LOL

Blues is the root of just about all modern music. Rock, R&B, Jazz, Bluegrass, Metal and most other forms of popular music. It all originated with the blues, and evolved and branched off from there!

Respect your roots brother!

i fully understand what your saying craig and yes its true almost all styles of modern american music owe alot to the blues, but you must understand my people were playing our own style of trad music before america was even discovered(if you can call it that) along time before the blues that we know today was even invented, before the slaves that played the music were snatched from africa, and i mean this in the best sence of the word but your roots are not my roots, no offence intended.
i mean im from the other side of the planet there are bound to be a few differences between us.

"If you don't like the blues you have a hole in your soul" is probably one of the most ignorant statements I have ever come across.

I know it's not cool to speak ill of the dead, but that comment is right down there with "You can't sing or dance if you aren't Black", or crap like that. Seriously, some musicians ruin it when they open their mouths.

No, I agree, take Irish Anthony out back like a rabid dog and finish him off... Lmao. Neh, just kidding man. Yeah, I was thinking that when this was said, that you come from the other side of the world, so it is understandable you would not be a blues fan. Everyones taste is different, you are entitled to your own. As I said, I am not heavily into blues myself, I like it, but it is not my goal in music. I am heavily into Middle Eastern sounds, so that is me.

To each his own! :D

Irminsul, I must say, that is the strangest statement I have ever heard, not liking the blues means you have a hole in your heart, just never heard that before, lol. You are right, sometimes our statements can really ruin things for others. *Shrug*

Peace out, man, GuitarAnatomy.

Cheers to you too, man. I do not think there is anything that could solve your problem, lol, some people just do not like the blues sound. I like a lot of jazz stuff, and tons of people do not like that sound. Music is what makes the world go round, if we were all obsessed with one style we would not be musicians. I am surprised blues has not become cliche by now, every guitarist I have ever heard of plays blues. Even I play it, so yeah.

I am a Middle Eastern music person as I said. All the music is very influencing from that side of the world, I like to listen to orchestras do those kind of things. They throw in their Phrygian’s and Locrian's, and different scale patterns and create these masterpieces. Also, in the Middle East, they have quarter steps on their instruments I hear, totally different sounding. When I play guitar I wrap a shirt around my head, make it look like what people wear in the desert.

Got to love the desert!

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Anthony,

Wasn't trying to be offensive. I merely pointed out that the Blues is the root of most modern music. It's worth rediscovering for that reason alone. I hear alot of kids today say that they are not into the blues, and yet the music they play originated in the blues. I point it out and they are usually surprised.

And it doesn't matter where you come from. The music you play, as posted on your profile, grew from the blues. Like it or not.

Happy 2008 brother!
