I was in an awesome band about 7 years ago and we were on the verge of going big...


That is until my wife came to a show... It was a huge outdoor party with about 300 people and there was girls getting up on stage topless and dancing n stuff....

Needless to say it ended my musical career at the time and I resented her for it for a long time.

We are now recently divorced and I'm back in business

why put up with bullsh*t from anybody? You've got a musical career to pursue, life's too short to put up with crap. Doesn't matter if there's romance involved or not, you have to approach this situation like this: your music is of paramount importance. You tell this guy here's the deal, period. Can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. It's that simple. Your next romantic friend has to be told UP FRONT that you're playing in a band WHENEVER YOU WANT, WHEREVER YOU WANT, and that's that. My whole music experience I've had NO TROUBLE with women. I tell them I'm going to band practice or going to a gig, SEE YOU LATER. Later...

My wife supports my music even though it is a time and money sucker. She is the best. If she got in the way I would pick her over the music time and time again. Luckily she doesn't get in the way. I have made tons of music and if my past creations were all I had I would still be proud. I hope I never have to choose, but if I did it's an easy choice. My wife is everything. I've written many songs about her. In your case allong this is not a marriage. I can relate to the feeling of jealousy he has, but he is in other bands!! And his other commitments are taking away from your band. Tell him straight. "It's just not fair. You need to give me my artistic freedom like I give me yours." Good luck. it sounds like a tough situation.

My wife is supportive of my music to the point that she pushes me to write even when I feel I'm temporarily tapped out. She has been nothing but uber-supportive the whole time we've been together. I'm truly one of the luckiest guys alive.

People you got to tell your spouses what the deal is. ALso you've got to tell your band members that their significant others are NOT GOING TO DISRUPT YOUR BAND EITHER. So many times over the years I've heard crap like "I can't gig that night because my wife says we've got other plans" or "it's not politically correct for me to rehearse next Sunday" or some other bullsh*t. Okay people this is a BUSINESS. Does your wife keep you from going to your day job? Basically you need to put people in their place from the get-go. Later...

If everyone expresses their goals, plans, and intentions right up front, it saves a lot of time, hard feelings, & Hassel.

My favorite saying "I love women, everyone should own at least 1". lol

This is often the fault of both partners.

One (the musician) who is not honest and up front about their goals with music, and the other who often wants to "change" them into their idea of a perfect person; and that may include selling off the old Gibson and Marshall stack.
