well, i finally got off my butt and signed up w SoundClick.

i'll torture all w ears and put up some of my solo recordings later. but for now i've put up four tunes of mine that were recorded w a cpl friends of mine. we go by The BVD's (as in Bass/Vibes/Drums). it's basically a shits and grins deal where we get together once a month and shoot the sh*t, drink a lot of beer, and oh, yeah... play a tune or two.

it's a good excuse for me to schlep my vibraphone and gtr outta the house and try to shake some of the cobwebs off what passes for my chops. both these guys write cool tunes but for some reason they always indulge me and we end up playing my stuff. i'll show 'em the rough sketch, form, chords... and it's off to races w protools capturing it warts and all. these guys are seriously GOOD and consistently just come up w great parts.

excuse the occasional slop (usually MINE)

anyway...if anyone is interesting in checking out some of it you'll find 'em here.

warning...jazz content here.

well, there's a cpl of older Airplane tunes of his i don't mind ...but then nah, that's already been done, right?

still, i wouldn't mind some of the $ he made off "Miracles"....but if i never heard it again...that'd be just fine.

I was thinking of the sterility of the Marty Balin album that come out in 1981 or 1980 with "Hearts" on it.. used only studio musicians and playing with not much emotion, but with great skill..I liked the album despite what the critics thought, but without that occasional squawk or squeak or microtonal effect it lacked soul..reminds me of my attempts.. LOL.. I shoot for the quality of "Death" by Lynard Dylan but that is unattainable at least for my skill level..

I got a chance to listen, I think my favorite is "What I Did This Afternoon". Very nice stuff! Love the vibes, I used to jam with a drummer that was studying vibraphone in college, his dad bought him this $3,000 instrument.

Dane, "MFAD" is really not that difficult of a piece, I've been playing it for years. It helps if you have a nylon string around, but it can even be played on a standard 6-string acoustic. Last time I saw Yes Howe didn't do that one, he played a couple of other compositions.

yes, I agree jimmy, it is not that difficult, but as JCP61 said, the genius is in the composition.. but anyways, I thought if I ever get up to Planetguy's neck of the woods, it might be nice to know a few things in common to jam on other than our pre-arranged "Cocaine" jam..

I have never heard that song Mood For A Day until Dane mentioned it. It did not seem that difficult! Would I learn it because Dane challenged me Prolly not! I am trying to get my originals recorded before I kick the bucket! Plus I play in two bands and it seems like I am always preparing to play a gig with a band I haven't played or rehearsed with in 2 months!
Enough about me. Not why I am posting on PG's thread!

Planet Guy! I know it doesn't matter but I have to say I was about to take you off of ignore when I read your cold hearted review of Glens king of the blues performance? I have had disagreements with you in the past. Having said that I say to you. Know one deserve's that kind of hate. You are better than that. I will chaulk your scathing review up to the (human) competition that has driven "EVERYONE OF US" on this site at one time or another to attack and say CRUEL things to one another that we would NEVER say to another human being! We tend to get so caught up in the competition that it becomes about winning at all cost! I tend to think that Glenn showed up at that contest and winged a genre that he is influenced by but hadn't really prepared for. Having said that who among us could have done better? I think under the circumstances he kicked Butt! Come on we have all been in that situation at one time or another in our career's! By the way I like your songs! I don't consider myself a Jazzer but I know some that will say I CAN hang! Jazz is like Golf to me I LOVE standing on the sidelines and I respect the dedication it takes to be good at it but my bag is what gets folks shaking there Butts on the dance floor
