Where is it?

I dug through a handful of profiles, and outside of Jimmy, jw123, Mikey from Washington, Slacker, and paleopete, I didn't hear too much...
My page needs updating; Need to put one or two snippets of my instrumental stuff up, but as of right now with the band song, I'm the solo that starts at about 3:01 to 3:16'ish on the player.

I'm not gonna name names, but either it isn't there, it isn't audible enough, or it's just wont pass muster...

I'd like to get some inspiration and learn a little something maybe from the cronies here, but for all the talking lately, I don't hear the samples.

Hi gtZip,

I just posted an instrumental that I'm working on and trying to finish. The track is me on guitar and a drum machine.

The song is written for a 7 string and in B Locrian with Harmonic Minor pitch Axis.

On my Bandmix Profile, the track is called "Jerry Santos Heavy Instrumental".

I hope you like it.

Hopefully within a few weeks I'll put some new studio tracks on my profile page.

Well That's just dandy... :) You want inspiration? How about creating it yourself ? I'm just saying... :)

I guess I should say some inspiration from the regulars would be fun.

I'll check your stuff in the morning Santos. Bed time.

You get where you get it.

I think KLUGMO's remark about "love" was the best I heard so far..

Oh wow thanks! My plan is to have real instruments recorded soon. I also have some problems with phrasing and timing issues with guitar. It was a rough sketch but I am stoked that you liked it.

Sounds good to me Santos, just put some kill switch sections in there and I would think it was Bucket Head, maybe some Tribal Tech to boot.

If thats just a sketch I cant wait to hear the finished painting!

Good Stuff, and Keep On Rockin!

cool. as to timing and phrasing issues...well we've all heard worse.

seriously, i think that's something we all deal with to one degree or another. i'm not a huge fan of this style of music tho i can appreciate the skill it takes to play it well.

back to timing...i think you have some real cool sleight of hand things you work in where you displace the "one" and so confuse (in a good way) where the downbeat is. points.

thanks for sharing. nice looking site BTW.

I somewhat mentioned my position in another thread, but I don't have anything uploaded right now, and probably won't for some time.

The reasoning is simple-
I don't see the point in uploading covers, I've done that in the past, so everyone already knows I can play a cover-song.

I don't see the point in uploading a "solo" either straight up or to a backing track. I'm not here to showoff or masturbate my phat skillz or lack thereof.. it just seems pointless to use music as a comparison / competition of skills. There's always going to be someone better or worse than me/you, music is supposed to be an emotional experience, not a contest.

What I do see the point in is this: original creations, I would love to upload something original, slick, groovy, melodic, and even inspirational.. I think that's the whole point in music for me- that maybe one day I could inspire people to play, or become better, or even a riff or something I write that would spark an idea in their head and then see them take it to a whole other level of existence that I didn't even think of- I dunno.. just a thought.

Over the last two years, I've leaped forward so much that everything I've recorded in the past seems juvenile and sloppy and I don't care to use that as a representation of my musicianship.

And there's a strong tone in this forum that if you don't upload stuff, that your ability to contribute to discussions is negated and your opinions don't count. Nobody has directly said as much to me personally, but I've seen it time and time again in other topics. It's bs in my opinion, but who cares, cause I have no music uploaded, right?

I am working on stuff and will someday unveil some new work or scratch tracks, but prob not in the next couple of months.

Hey I ain't no guitar hero. Just a solid player that has been gigging to live audiences for 40 yrs. I have not done any serious recording for 5 years and I basically loath the process but it's overdue. We have a blues tune nearly ready but getting in the studio together has been like herding cats this summer.

The tunes up on my page any average guitarist could cover without much effort. They are in tune, the timing is decent and the guitar tone is relevant to the song. For me, it's not really about "showing my stuff" but more about communicating with an audience. Few young guitarists will dream about someday playing just like me but I still get the calls and gig regularly. 100% of my gear was paid for with gig money so it is what it is. As long as people still want to hear me play, I will continue to play. :)

Like Pete said in another thread "come on now, you know you do it for the chicks"!

Thanks JHaley, John Petrucci is a big influence to me.

Thanks Jw123, Buckethead and Scott Henderson from tribal tech are monster players. Both of these guys play outside of the "box" which is something I'm dying to train my ears to do.

Thanks PG! Jazz really opened my eyes with Odd Meter and Tempo Variations. My goal is to become a fusion player like Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Pat Metheny. Also, influenced by Jaco and Weather Report.

Nice chops on the Warwick Bass btw! Cheers!

and thanks back atcha jerry.

i'm guilty of not having any tunes up (audio), just the links to the videos in my signature. as they say a picture is worth a 1000 words.... even if they might be "don't quit yer day job!" hehehe

i do need to get off my duff and remedy that by getting some of my tunes up. problem is i only have these recordings stored on my computer.

can someone recommend a good (and FREE) hosting site like SoundCloud or something else they like???
