Prolly right... along with that no SS till 85!
Figure most of us will be long gone or too senile to remember we paid into it!

In a few more years there won't be any money left in SS to pay anyone.

I made an album in my early 20s. Had a big life change and followed another direction. Got back into it years later. Time has passed. I have asked myself the same questions about starting something serious at 56 (now 57 and 58 will be closing in soon enough).

A guy my age contacted me and we are recording. It's great. It's stimulation, it is giving and getting energy and some needed purpose than playing to the four walls.

We are self-producing and it is a great ride. Whether it goes anywhere or not we are involved and doing it.

Certainly the music industry is geared towards youth, and those with long careers may get the chance to tap into some of those youth to keep going. Some of the biggest acts are "grandfather" bands.

But you are just starting out? Well, being wiser than the young you will probably not make the same mistakes in choosing and working with people you realize too late was a waste of time.

Set your style, set your goals, make your lists, check things off and go for it.

It's like Return to Forever. No new music in 3 decades, still packing houses. Like Lenny White says, they went through the punk phase, the boy band phase, and all the rest. They are not a boy band, they are a man's band, and that is so true. 95% of the people at their shows are their age. True they made it 30 years ago and have name recognition, but hey, didn't Ray Kroc start McDonalds at 55?

It is NEVER too late for anything except if you are dead:) If you have a lot of doubt, then you need to see what and why your mind is "telling " you this? Why are you finding excuses for not doing something you can do till you die??? If this is your passion, and it better be, then the only one who can stop you is......YOU!!! Get out there and get em!!!!

Yeah it's never too late, I have been playing since the middle ages and I don't feel half bad for 10,000 years old. LMAO..

(Then again, I drink blood and chew road tar but that's a side hobby)

In reality folks, you are only as old as you feel.

If you feel 100, you probably are.
If not, you may just be golden. Who knows?

constructive advise. I can not comment on anything but your vocals.
What I hear is stagnant but has an underlying sensual gravel with potential.
You need to stop singing in sections. You can hit notes but you are not hitting
notes that you should be hitting.

An exercise: I want you to pick a couple of lyric lines that are fairly long
and are a favorite. Next I want you to sing those lines, ONLY stoping
to breathe. Blend each word with the next and ONLY stop for air. Now sing
each line 3 times in 3 different ways.

This will force you to ad-lib vocally. Sing it excited, romantic, powerful,
soft and meaningfully. Your lungs are your most powerful ally as a singer.
Learn to control your air to bring expression to your voice. Monotone vocals
will ruin any song and bore any listener quickly.

I'm over 50 and play when ever I can where ever I can. You're right though, the younger crowd expects to be in a younger group. I do play in a church band, that helps but I'm still looking for that casual group that wants to enjoy playing together. Anyone out there? I'm in Waterford Michigan. Just jam?

I don't know what it would be like to start a music career at fifty. I am going to have to say no, it's not feasible. As cruel as it sounds I think that anyone who is serious about music should make music.....BUT.....if you think that you are going to get famous at it try to keep in mind that there are 7 billion people in the world and only one Susan Boyle. The music world is obsessed with youth. Not to mention sex. I don't know about you but at fifty I look pretty bad in a bikini. Well, for a man. On the other hand weddings, bar mitzvah's and lounges can bring in good money! Hava nagila..hava nagila....hava nagila.....can you say free food.
