Found out last week that one the venues I booked (The Percolator Cafe) done got shut down! Chains on the door and everything... !

And of course they did not bother to notify the folks that were already on their calendars. I found out quite by accident. This, after I just pumped a sh*t load of fliers into the town , with locations, dates and times.

Lucky for me, I have good friends in the theatrical world... And now I'm negotiating space with a theater that ..well is just a plain awesome location and venue.

The coolest part? They got a full blown recording studio on that floor and the sound guys offered to donate studio time to me, for the winners of the contest...

A house with a PA system and a crew built in...
How cool is that!? : )

Your AWESOME Grant and you deserve for good folks to pitch in and help you! I think most people would find that if they were willing to help their city with a song writing contest to promote local music they would find just as you have a lot of folks will chip in! 8)

Thanks Jeff...

UPDATE: I spoke with the sound guys there last night, and they were indicating their willingness to donate some studio hours for winners of the contest. (My own Engineer has decided to stop giving time away since the last guy turned out o be a 'no-show' on the appointment...Sigh! Only in El Paso! LOL! )

The venue owner gave a red light on my event and wont support it.

He cited concerns about drawing too much attention from the city re his zone violations... Now, I think he's actually got bigger reasons than he's letting on to...But without realizing it, he just implied that he's about to sh*t can a lot of other events (non production, non gallery showings) which is gonna be a kick in the pants to a lot of the young musicians who have been playing at that venue. Ce la Vie! Not my problem...In my opinion I believe I could have made him some money...but whatever... So what remains is if I still got that Sound Lab's engineer's support. If not Then they all suck and I'll just find some other lucky bastards LOL!

The Sound Lab should support you to help promote HIS business. In all your flyers/advertising/promoting etc. prominently display the name/logo of the sound company. There's a good chance a lot of musicians involved will hire that company in the future. The studio I use has done similar free shows and got business from it.

I talked to the guy at Sound-Lab. Essentially they are a couple of young dudes with no real business experience.... I told them I'd do some resounding shameless plugs, post their banners all over my show, and drop biz cards on every table and every envelope...
I only asked that they donate 10 hours of free studio time to the winners of the contest. The guy I asked, really struggled with that offer...So I reminded him that the advertising I'm offering would pay for their loss ten fold over... He's Still nervous about it...I'm like: "Whatever!"
