The bottom line was this guy finally heard the flute after it being buried in the mix since the beginning of time. It was not to loud, it simply now could be heard, along with the rest of the band rather then the mush that was the sound before. I had a bunch of members come up to me after the service and tell me that was the first time they ever heard the flute and wow was she good. The poor girl had been playing her heart out for who knows how long and no one ever heard how good she was.

Its very Funny you mention this!!! I have been playing at this Church for five years now. The youth pastor/ everything else runs the music program. I am told Not to play with my Mic because its to loud...lol I have been a flute player a long time and played many places..one needs to tell me I cant have a mic..lol ok...whatever. But I have to be a Lamb here..minding my Elders....lol

People are very ignorant on music mix and instrument balance.
Xmas day..I was told not to mic..ok, I hooked up my mic anyways. No one would of never heard my Alto flute, or a song with Native Flute...three tall big guys were standing in front of me singing all with mics..lol

Have many stories like this. But I try not to get mad. But its hard to get music on a Sunday morning an hr before playing that is wrote for Guitar..lol

Im there for experience and love to Christ to honor Him!

BTW, have you ever seen KS live?

Alway Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

I recall in one of Tulls stories he tells when he was beginning his band.
Fact, he had to rename his band each time he played to get another gig.
Now can you image that? lol All the people that know NOT a thing about music and performance are the first ones to make fun.

During my yrs of playing I have found some fairly good people. Also I have found rothen apples, drunk, druged up, butt heads...oh well.

Keep trucking on!!!
We do music because its in our hearts and lives.

That was only part of the quote!

The whole thing went "When smashing the State, always keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart!" and it was spoken by none other than Phineas Freak, one of the infamous Furry Freak Brothers. They were creations of '60s cartoonist Gilbert Sheldon.

Oh yea howlin. Blue Cheer. Man how did you come up with that? Great call. Good stuff. We are showing our age here though mate. :) They are actually making a comeback I understand.

Now I have to get re-aquainted with them again. It's been a while.

How big is your church? There is no way in the church I ran sound in a flute would be heard un-mic'd. I mean not a chance.

I know exactly what you are saying. YOu want the tools to do your best, but yet don't want to make waves. I know. That is why I told you that story. IT doesn't take much to make a great musician look bad, or even have them overlooked.

What I like about flute is it's timbre. It has a powerful, yet delicate sound. In the mix IMO it has to be treated with kid gloves for it to sound it's best.

When you say have I seen KS are you referring to Kansas? That would be a no.

Blue Cheer? Comeback? Huh?

Hadn't heard about that one. Blue Cheer was my first exposure to anything but pop oriented AM radio stuff like the Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, etc

Then I heard Atomic Rooster and Blue Cheer at a friend's house...then came Steppenwolf, Grand Funk, Moby Grape, (not too familiar with them though) Cream, Yes, King Crimson, Blue Oyster Cult, Slade, Deep Purple, Captain Beyond...I was hooked...Until then Hendrix was about the heaviest I had heard, and didn't really like him then, I've developed a great respect for Hendrix in the past few years, but before he died I wasn't all that impressed. Maybe because I never had a chance to see him play live, I don't know...

Always liked Blue Cheer's version of Summertime Blues.

Oh, I've heard that story about Ian Anderson too, it seems the band was so bad they had to take a new name every week so the club owners wouldn't know they were the same band they had kicked out a week or two before. That's also the time he started wearing an old, ratty long coat and was playing harmonica.

By the way, know who Jethro Tull actually was? An 18th century agronomist who invented the Seed Drill

You taught me something, I did not even realize what Jethro Tull was named after. Some of these bands take their names from the strangest things.

I have never heard of Blue Cheer, I guess because it was a 1960's band. As far as Hendrix goes, I respect his talent and only like some of his songs. He is a complex writer and was very good for someone with no music theory.

The only song I know of Steppenwolf is "Born to be Wild." As for Cream, well everyone knows who they are, "White Room" was their best. And Blue Oyster Cult's best song (And like the only other one I know of theirs) is "Don't Fear The Reaper." I actually can play some of that one, lol.

I am not heavily into 1960's music. I mainly like stuff that came out of the 1970's. As for the other bands you mentioned, I know who Yes is, Deep Purple, and King Crimson (Not as familiar with them), I am not a fan of that sound.

Well thought I would just drop in and reply to that one.

Peace out man, GuitarAnatomy.

Hey Pete. Check it out man. Sounds like a come back to me.

http://www.bluecheer.us/

You know the story of Jethro Tull and their name is the almost the same story for Black Sabbath. Before they were Black Sabbath they had the same name as another band which I don't remeber at this time. They (future Black Sabbath) got booked by mistake in place of the band by the same name that was really wimpy. So the future Black Sabbath played and, well it was a disaster. So that never happend again they came up with a name that no one could mistake. Black Sabbath.

Im waiting to the Flower Kings come back to the states soon hopefully.
