Chaeya wrote:Really? So these famous musicians counts as "others'" and the indie musicians I support and pay to go see are just "non-grata" individuals. Should they just quit and suffer their day jobs and stop being hobbyists? That you only become a "real" musician if you have a big label contract, hit records, basically a big corporate machine to "tell" you that they matter?

Sir, that $35 for a ticket becomes $70 if both my husband and I attend. I'm the sole breadwinner in my house and my husband works as a "pro" musician while I hold down the fort.

I think you have been misinterpreting what I was saying. You choose to use your limited 'entertainment' funds in attending 'indie musicians' shows, so you are not forgoing ALL concerts.
If you are the sole breadwinner in your house, your husband isn't pro, he's an unemployed musician!

So then why did you respond to me and state the "in foregoing ALL concerts" quote in your first post, and now you're saying I'm not. SMDH. I didn't misinterpret anything, you just don't know how to use the English language properly to clarify what the heck you're trying to say.

My husband is the member of several bands and gets PAID every weekend. The money he makes goes into our recording studio that we pay rent for to work on our original music and as a rehearsal space for our projects. When he's not doing that he is holding down the fort while I'm at work and we have an autistic daughter, which is why one of us needs to be at home.

I will not engage myself in any needless back and forth that will not result in any worthwhile outcome. I'm out of this thread.

I don't like crowds much but to my delight I've tickets to see Nightwish next month in a rather intimate venue in Atlanta.

They're huge in Europe but not so much in US - good for me at any rate.

I've supported these people and have their albums when they were in their heyday, I also rebought their music in digital format, so I think I've f**k supported them enough!

that says it all.

The last few years have been a bit of a Classic Rock concert revival for me. All the kids are gone, college paid for, now they have jobs and houses. I have disposable income for the first time in a very long time:
McCartney
Elton John
Styx
Chicago
CSNY
The Eagles
Eric Clapton
BB King
Robert Randolph
Stagecoach Country Music Festival
Foreigner (with Jason Bonham)
Leon Russell
Santana
Don Henley
Jeff Beck
Earth Wind and Fire
Imelda May
Reo Speedwagon
.38 Special
The Riverdogs

Also many up-and-comers from rock/jazz/blues you have never heard of. It has been a fun ride. Live music rules!
