Plenty of styles genres to listen to. I like this site despite its reputation the competitions are fixed.

Fairly mild site. Has musicians from around the world and a variety of skill levels. Basically an on-line collaboration site. Nice folks.
Right now I'm working on a tune with a Harmonica in Scotland, a Guitarist in Spain and a bassist in Ohio.

Pretty large library of tunes... just about anything you want to hear. You can create your own station and it'll play the style or artists you want to hear. You can become a member and post your music for a monthly fee don't remember what it costs though.

Some of those other sites look interesting. I've been on Jango numerous times. There's a lot of very interesting features on it. You can create a friends list of other Jango listeners. You can submit your own tunes and have them played alongside artists you consider similar to your own music. On a Jango listener's station you could be featured as a "new artist." After your song is played the listener has a chance to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down, and then could elect to be a fan of yours. If so you get a list to send them messages, perhaps telling them where they can BUY your CD if one is available. It costs about $40 per 1,000 plays of your tune. Great marketing concept. Let's you test a song, see if it stacks up against famous artists.

Hardcoremix.com - on-line radio station where I post my music. They feature all genres of music and do interviews with artists.

Jango.com - I have a page with my songs that play all over the world with artists whose music is similar to my style. I really like that I get statistics on my song plays and fans. They have contests and also send info on current music.

musesmuse.com - Songwriter forum where you can post lyrics, MP3's or poetry and get comments from other songwriters. Also has a general conversation area and a place for musicians and writers to talk about their craft. I post my songs and poetry on this site and do collaborations.

Not to slam anyones choice of websites, but when I see what they are they are just another musician site, what I know from playing live is that you hardly ever get any business, as in money in your pocket promoting yourself to other musicians, I think you would be better to get it somewhere were the audience isnt a critic like another musician.

So where is site with a true listening audience, I think thats whats been lost with record labels losing thier grip on product, there is just a bunch of crappy product laying around, and noone to pick thru it for the good stuff. To me thats what the old time A&R guys really did, they got rid of the crap and put what they thought was good on the market. Whereas today any of us can post music anywhere, but who ever really listens to it with the intent of actually buying it? Music has become just another free deal to me.

Arnel Pineda was discovered on Youtube (Journey) as well as one of the richest kids in the world Justin Bieber. And there have been others.

Mia Rose – Rose, is an English/Portuguese singer songwriter. Rose posted daily videos singing cover songs on YouTube starting 2006. She set a record within a month for the number of subscribers. In 2009 she wrote and recorded “Let Go” selling it on iTunes in Portugal where it became the best selling download and number 2 in Portuguese charts. Rose has been featured in Rolling Stone, The Sun, The Age and BBC Radio 5 Live.


This is part of the new industry. You Tube and Digital downloading has blown up the old and created something new for artists all over the world. It's not the only way... but for many artists it's a new way to get your songs heard all over the world and for some to be discovered.
If nothing else it's a good outlet for artists. Especially ones stuck at home going at it alone.

Not to slam anyones choice of websites, but when I see what they are they are just another musician site, what I know from playing live is that you hardly ever get any business, as in money in your pocket promoting yourself to other musicians, I think you would be better to get it somewhere were the audience isnt a critic like another musician.

this is probably the best most true post yet I've sewen on this forum.. it's as if music is a commodity now instead of fine art.. BRAVO! great post..

Dane, music is a commodity at this point, its a brave new world.

I commented cause Bob always complains about not getting paying gigs, well in my opinion if you cant get people to pay to see you live, how do you ever expect to get people to pay for your music, its just backwards to me.

I personally dont hardly ever buy music anymore, if my band throws some song at me, I just watch in on youtube top learn it, crazy, Im part of the problem. We are just to accustomed to checking something out for free.

JW, I don't think the people using Ourstage, Jango or YouTube are really trying to reach a few more locals to come to a gig. They're trying to reach Industry people to work with them.

I am sure that what you are saying is true to a performaing musician and maybe that would not be a good place for you, but everyone has a different path with their musical aspirations.

There are many reasons that I go to these sites and post my music and put my music on the internet radio.

I am not a performer, no one, not even in my own family or friends listens to my music. If it wasn't for my friends I have made on these sites, there would be no one to help, mentor or listen to me.

These sites have performing musicians on them who are there to perfect their songwriting skills and I have seen a few become much more successful.

Our site has two producers who give good advice, one of them worked on a Michael Jackson album.

One of the musicians I work with was famous in the 60's and made records and a movie and knew many famous people, that has been very fascinating and he gives wonderful advice.

Most of these sites are learning sites where folks explore their musical talent and try to improve.

The radio sites, well, I have had some folks from all over the world tell me that they heard one of my songs and it meant something to them. For me, to know another person listened to my songs and it touched them in some way, that is just the best thing ever.

There is nothing wrong wih learning and being a part of a community. It may not suit your ambitions or needs, but for others it is the best that they can do.

On the flipside, there is this site and I am on here learn about folks such as yourself and listen to your music because it is a learning experience for me, I am sure there are some that are wondering why a songwriter is visiting a board such as this, but I do hope to learn something about music and not just swear words, but I have seen my fair share of the latter since I started....LOL!!
