You got a point Jimmy, I forget that Bob plays bass and not guitar, it is easier for me to get things down by myself.

Its funny but I have recorded a few things with the bass first and then layered on top of that, Im sure youve done that Jimmy at some point.

Bob if you go into record just make sure you have your music down backwards and forwards.

Oh I have recorded a couple songs playing the bass parts first but it's a lot harder than recording everything else and layering the bass on later. I'm guessing that Bob would record the rhythm parts all together to get a nice spontaneous feel.

I prefer to write, arrange and play the music, I have no interest in the technical aspects of recording. So for over 25 years I've been recording in professional studios; the result is 120+ songs in 20+ projects. It may cost a little more but it's worth it to me. Bob, at this stage of the game I would advise you do the same.
. Guys, on this I agree with Jimmy and Grant. I already have the place to record at and it's nowhere near $100/hour. Recording is NOT the problem. I have no desire to record at home. My money and time is much wiser and better spent with a professional manning pofessional equipment. The problem is getting other people to get into the studio with me.

Do the other guys just not want to record? Or is it a money issue? To be honest Bob you can forget about everyone chipping in, it usually doesn't work. If you have the funds just produce it yourself (that means put up the cash in plain talk). I have produced everything I've ever recorded, because most musicians haven't got a lot of money and I like to be in control of the project. Yes I've spent a lot of money and not all of it turned out great, but the ones that did are priceless.

Yes money is an issue, but I'll bet we recoup the investment in sales and better gigs down the road. I think it's also a matter of testicles. Some people don't have the stones,if you know what I mean...

Bob, if I may, do you have a demo tape/cd of your band playing to take to potential clients/bar owners to get work with? when I played with Candy Coburn we went to a $70.00 an hour studio to do 4 of our best tunes to get work with.. we have live auditioned too though to see if we are what the establishment's owner is looking for..

Bob, if you can find somebody with a good ear for recording, then you can do it pretty well for less cash. Its the mastering that would mostly cost you guys. I mean, as long as the levels are right, then all the recording would need is a little extra punch. Don't forget about DD either....it's always an option to consider.

Why not go for it. Then you can make another CD later as you build up your fanbase.

Bob you have "From The Bloody Banks...", that CD cost $2500, $1300 for the recording, mixing and mastering, and $1200 to duplicate 1000 units. That's about $500 a song, so that's a rough yardstick to measure the cost of your project. If you have the resources just do it, you only live once.

Bob, not to be a naysayer but dont plan on making your money back from sales of cds, sadly these days most people dont want to pay anything for cds, the mindset is the music should be free.

Ive put together a couple of demo cds of my band Aint Yo Mama together, sadly I found that they wouldnt sell, so I gave most away, to bar owners, friends just anyone that would take one, we have gotten gigs from the cds, so I guess there is a return.

Im not trying to burst your bubble on this, in fact I hope you do make some money from them, but I wouldnt bet the farm on it.

Good Luck

Oh yeah Im with Jimmy, if you have the means to fund some songs thats the way to go, getting a group of people together who will all pitch in, more than likely isnt going to happen, Ive been debating upgrading my bands lights, of course the other guys say what we have is fine, so if its going to happen then I will be writting the check. Just the way it is.

"Maybe the Mayans were right after all. We could be part of End Times. "

I'll buy that. I also think that we are heading to a world wide crisis soon. I have already ordered my "Repent The End Is Near" sand witch board sign. Seriously, I do think that we are in for a world wide financial collapse and then look out.

By the way, fearless leader has close 6 border stations. 4 in Texas. That asshole will be putting vouchers for illegals in their places I imagine. So why airport security when he welcomes every drug cartel, terrorist, and illegal into the country. When the borders go, the country goes.

Slacker, it's sad that so many don't get this very simple concept!

Somewhere I saw a funny cartoon on this.

It shows a Mayan making the calendar and he ran out of numbers, he looks at the other guy, the other guy says this will mess with some suckers heads one of these days, just leave it be!

I don't buy into that stuff. I have other reasons to believe what I believe. I'm not canceling my sand witch sign. :) :)
