I think with a larger pool of people signed up for med. insurance that the poor uninsured using the emergency room and thus driving up the costs to the policyholders will become a thing of the past..just study your lesson on Romney and Massachusetts, they started this must have med. insurance and the experts say it's turning things around for the good..

Really? How about the 3 million illegals that just received amnesty through presidential fiat? No Dane... you just ADD that number to the ones already abusing healthcare. Young people will pay for those older then them. And maybe, just like social security, it won't be around when they go to collect.

you do bring up a valid point Slacker, what happens in 2014 when we all start paying 1% of our income tax to the feds and all are supposed to be enrolled in some sort of medical insurance policy or pay the penalty/"tax" to the IRS..there will still be those without insurance but the numbers should be minimal in relation to 2012/today .. I know I heard some right wingers talking on PBS about the doctor shortage will make the obamacare impossible to do, and other reasons but Massachusetts is doing better without all the uninsured putting the burden on the policyholders..

I saw that whole documentary...and in the end, none of those countries could tweak it...because it doesn't work ... Something will give...people will suffer a consequence... The problem is that the sacrifice is being "forced" on us... All that just to appease idiots with a grand vision of No proof

My son and I got into a huge debate over this last night.

I would just like a crystal ball to see what happens in say 15 years once this thing is fired up, and see what it does to business's, individuals, insurance companys, doctors, and lastly lawyers! LOL!

In the end its taking a liberty away from us, the individual and letting the governement have a hand in it, I dont like that. I personally dont like being told to sdo something by anyone, until I can see if it really will benefit me, yeah thats selfish, but thats the only way I can look at these things.

On a musical veiw point, its like taking your most prized prog rock song to an open mic session with musicians who dont have a clue and trying to present your vision of your song to the public. Thats never worked for me, it turns into a cluster f**k and just makes my prized music sound like sh*t, I would just rather not do that.

God you really are a DUMB@SS! Obama had a Democratic Congress and Senate he could have done ANYTHING HE WANTED FOR 2 YEARS including do something about illegal GIMMIGRANTS! There are tons of new taxes and a lot of control legislation in that bill that have nothing to to with health care. It is an iron yoke put around every free citizen in America. You would have to be brain dead to believe there is ANYTHING good in this legislation. But after all, it was written by a good many self professed Socialists, Marxists, and communist members of the government. And some of you Pollyannas' can't see that it is about population control? Etu I'm no expert but from my understanding thus far:

* if you have insurance currently - either supplied by your employer or paid in full or partly by you NOTHING WILL CHANGE. Your employer will get a credit for offering insurance to its employees.

* if you do not have insurance, you will be required to buy some. If you choose not to buy it you will be subject to a penalty, most likely under $1000/year.

* instead of uninsured using the emergency room and you and I paying for it in the long run, hospitals will be reimbursed for services from this penalty fund.

* this does not raise taxes one penny for anyone. It simply spreads out the cost more evenly.
