Not exactly sure what you're getting at except "trust the artist" and I'd agree with that.

Sticking with your tree analogy, I did once work with a "dictator" producer who wanted to change the tree by adding Tower of Power horns to a guitar-based rock song, which cost a lot and changed it into something I didn't want it to be.

I had to remind him that I, the musician, was a paying client who didn't sound like that. We fought about it and I eventually got a compromised version with less horns, and didn't allow him to produce without supervision from then onward.

But there are some artists who don't know what their (production) options are so they will keep drawing the same tree with different colored leaves if someone doesn't help them. When you know what the next lyric and chord is before you hear it the first time, then why listen?

Ok, I am with you thus far but I guess the point is that every artist has a different style.

You have to be careful not to crush anything that may not support the actual weight of the producer. lol

"Tweak but do not change"..

I.E>. More color is fine..more change is dangerous.

The best and only producer in the world you want to work with is the one that sees your vision clearly and doesn't hear the fing horn section.

Reminds me of that jackass in the UK. He can take his fame and dance beat and stuff that right up his arse.
