I think the genre these days is serve yourself, I mean my son has 8000 songs in his ipod, and he just listens to whatever suits him at any given time, some of the groups he tells me about Ive never heard of.
He does keep me enlightened on things going on in his college group, they are listening to some form of tech dance music these days, I think someone mentioned it on here in a post, I dont know the name, hes played it for me and its just another form of disco to me.
Bob, I think a lot of it is our ages, when I grew up in the 70s music was such a large part of my life, the first VH album came out and me and my guitar playing buddies sitting around trying to figure it all out, plus listening to music was a shared experience, I remember we would all go to concerts together, plan it weeks in advance, these days, my kids will just look on youtube at groups in concert, before they even think of going.
When I was a teenager we hung out in parking lots with someones car stereo blasting, these days all the kids have thier own headsets listening to whatever they want to and instead of talking they just listen to music and text each other, its just a whole different world.
Heres a crazy thought, some one is going to come up with a box that you hook up to yourself and it just makes a soundtrack for you personally, whatever your mood is it just adjust to it. Sounds crazy, but Im sure there is something in the works along this line, makes us live musicians obsolete.
