Re: grace chords, as long as it sounds good: do it, eh? One just has to be careful (in a full band), to make sure it doesn't clash.
I guess soloists have it easier . . .

The piece is one of my favorites - Piano Concerto No. 1 in A Minor by Edvard Grieg. This is the 1st movement (and not a bad performance at all). At one minute and 42 seconds into the video, listen to the quick little notes that precede the top (melodic) notes he's using as the pianist works his way down the keyboard. Those are grace notes.

I hope that makes sense, it's the best way I can describe them to a non pianist (I assume that, is that right?)

I am assuming you mean those rapid notes at 1:44 into the video, if that is the case, then I think I have a bit of a better understanding of what you mean. Yes though, you are right, I am not a pianist (But I want to learn).

Thanks for the save. I am not as versed in classical music as you are and I couldn't find a good example. I was going through some of my music that I know had grace notes but couldn't find the piece. The one you provided was excellent. That kid on piano is amazing.

I actually played a piece on my classical guitar I was going to provide as an example but I am so rusty it was more of pull-offs as opposed to grace notes. LOL

I really let those skills deteriorate and I have alot of work to get back into shape before anyone hears any of that stuff.

I try to play jazz, without grace notes I would be nothing...

The trick is to play the grace note (or grace chord) - gracefully . . .

No you're not mistaken at all....in fact I didn't even need to hear the song again, I knew exactly the part you are talking about. It's a signature part of the song if you ask me.
