I did work in one outfit though that was so discilipined we knew our show backwards and forwards. For rehearsals we might learn new songs (some times) then go through the whole show, ironing out any rough edges.

After that, we'd get a bit whacked and play it again, just for grins.

Recordings (including both rehearsals and live gigs) showed that it is probably better to play sober if you want to play good. But if you are going to high - know that material!

This reminds me of a quote I saw from Elliot Easton of the Cars back in their heyday. I think it was in Guitar Player Magazine where he said, "If you're going to play stoned, then you need to practice stoned"

I lived by that motto for a lot of forgotten years.

it became apparent many years ago (in 79' i think) that drugs took away from you, far more than they appeared to give.

You can't play stoned or drunk.
The more you can tune in to your true self the more it will come across.

It is one thing to have a beer when you are jamming, but a completely different thing when you are trying to share an intangible with an audience.

Hendrix was so stoned once he couldn't do a show. Clapton was so weak once he left everyone hanging. What about Axle? This list could go on.

If you really want to succeed at anything you need a clear head just to start.

I was lucky to get a chance to see YOD perform.
It was one of the most heartfelt, brilliant, sober, soul sharing, performances, anyone could ever see.

The most important thing you can bring to any endeavor is your brain. I see some of these young people, musicians, coming up...

They are great and so straight, they understand the competition. If anyone thinks that drugs make you sound better, It's true. When you are alone and listening to tracks that actually suck.

I guess this girl coming up here, and trying to sell drugs up here kind of shocked me. If anyone thinks they play that much better when stoned,, knock yourself out. Just don't drive your car into mine. Mr Dylan I think you need to find a friend to help you. You started this thread and I think you have allowed a few things to twist your thinking.

Drugs can really mess you up. Period.

you said Dylan, quote "you don't know me" endquote, then how do you know so much about my personal life then? if I know nothing of you, then there is no way you know anything about me, don't forget we are casual acquaintances, not friends, because you can trust nobody because of your current lifestyle, which has to be hid, and secretly guarded, like a cockroach that needs darkness to survive..

all my peers tell me at these events is that you throw temper tantrums and tirades all the time, such as GameLeg told me, Mylon says the same thing, you even are told not to come back to Joplin cause of your mouth, you have no control of your emotions, or your mind for that matter..so who is the weirdo guy man

this is so funny, and laughing so hard, I can't hardly write it, but at these events (when Dylan was still going to them) Dylan loved to brag how girls would love to rub their titties on his back while in the crowd.. LMFAO!! if you would see how ugly Dylan is close up you'd be laughing too! LOL.. they probably felt sorry for him, and were giving him a little "loving".. more loving than he gets at home no doubt
