Good to see you're back.I was just listening to "Up jumped spring".For playing sax for three years I was impressed.Get out and jam as much as you can with people who will give you space to imrovise because it sounds like your gettin' it. Wegman and every one else should own a copy of "kind of blue".Another "must have"is the classic "Time out"which includes the afore mentioned tune "Take five".All seven songs on "Time out"are in different time signatures.Joe Morello...awsome drummer!

If these two jazz albums don't do it for you,all I can say is "thats cool..KEEP ON ROCKIN'" But if you aquire a tast for more,I would recomend anything by Pat Metheny. I also gotta tell ya,Your threads are the best,and I aint talkin' 'bout yore clothes.Your guitar playin is definetly cool as well.

Oh yeah, Debussy is one of my faves: I know the piece. I prefer his solo piano work, but I haven't heard anything of his yet that I don't like.

Yea man I wish I was closer so we could jam. I wish the lot of us were all in the same area, we would have one heck of band. I really would like to play with guys like you, and Claude and Irminsul, and RyhtmMan etc. because you guys all play stuff that is way different then what I am into. I always prefer to play with people who are outside of my expertise because that is how you improve and grow as a player.

Oh boy, a better question might be who am I not into.

I always try to avoid recommending jazz unless I have some idea where a person is coming from musically, but I'll post some general thoughts. If a person likes the more easy-listening aspects of jazz I might recommend starting with the standard starting point (this is almost like a knee-jerk recommendation) Miles' Kind of Blue or for something a little less obvious maybe Hank Mobley's Soul Station or Grant Green's Idle Moments (great one for guitarists, btw). If a person is someone who listens to a lot of heavy duty rock and roll or punk (or whatever they're calling these things these days) they might get bored with some of those so I might suggest FME's cuts or maybe Fred Anderson's CD with Hamid Drake, but it's difficult to say what would work without knowing a person. Really if you're getting into more current stuff there is so much to choose from I would recommend getting an eMusic account and trying out some different things for a relatively low price.

I am really into Al Dimeola's new stuff. It is very Jazz oriented, though Dimeola has always been in the genre of Jazz. The thing is there are so many versions of Jazz. I really like the smooth jazz, but that to me is not really jazz in it's pure form. IMO that is jazz light desgined for the masses to comprehend. Then you have fusion, progressive, big band which is great, crossover etc.

I always look for some one to recommend something because it is probably something I would never find on my own. This also enables me to kind of get to know them from a musical standpoint so when I discuss topics such as this I am least in the ballpark of the discussion.

There is so much great music, in so many genres it is sad that many players only listen or play one particular genre. IMO learn it all and you can't help but improve your skills.

I will check out everything yourself and Claude have recommended and thanks for the suggestions guys. I appreciate it.

Also thanks for the kind words on my playing and threads. Music is something I very much enjoy and I enjoy sharing my experiences and hearing from others about theirs. As I stated earlier, that is how you grow as player and learn more about the state of the art by gaining knoweledge from different perspectives.

It looks like were starting to get a good group of people out here and there has been some great information provided by all.

I wish there would have been a source such as this when I was GuitarAnatomys age. I would be light years ahead of where I am today.

I have learned a ton from this forum and sure I will learn more.

Off topic, but I just thought of this again and decided to ask.

Wow, thanks man. I was a little hesitant to put any of my practice tracks up, but I figured anyone checking my profile out should know where I'm at musically. I have yet to play with anybody other than my computer backing tracks, I have talked to a bass player about jamming so that's got me excited!

Yea Claude for the short time you have been playing you play very well. I think the sax is definitely your thing. I listened to your tunes and they were pleasant and kept my interest.

Keep in mind all my stuff is improvised. One take on each track made up on the spot. I leave the mistakes in.

I have enjoyed playing and entertaining by my Fltues most of my days.

I have just picked up a Dulcimer from Ozarks recently and the sound is SO awesome. I have always admired guitar players but had other interest. But I find people really love fltue. They have forgot the great kings as Ian Anderson in Rock and Roll.
So- I make nosie that way.
