I can see why it would bother you, musicians do get smashed for being stupid, mainly people who play guitar though. I could not picture looking at a violinist as dumb for instance. So yeah, when people talk that way it certainly does not help.

On the other note, I do not know if my hands would be too big for a violin. The farthest I can stretch on guitar would probably be, well in fret numbers, from 7 to 13. I am working on making it 7-14. So, I am not sure, but I would like to try the violin someday myself. It is a beautiful instrument. I love the sounds it can emit. Look at Drops of Jupiter by Train or Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. By the way, I saw Train live down here at Sunfest, not bad.

Anyhow, I am looking into learning the oud or maybe the sitar (As far as Middle Eastern goes). But for typical Western society instruments, I am going for piano and bass guitar.
