Sean, just keep doing what you like to do. If you can't sing or don't have a band to back you up just do your thing. As soon as the boys get done picking your bones clean they will move on to the next victim.

Cool stuff, Sean.

I got into guitar because of Jimmy Page, so the Van Halen stuff always sounded like someone playing scales as fast as they can with some sway bar in between. It never really "spoke" to me though I do respect the work that goes into being able to do it.

I have played lead in a power trio before but, in Texas, fast guitar players grow on trees so it has always been easier just to hire a guitar player and concentrate on singing.

Now all you guys only need a singer/songwriter that knows how to exploit your talent. :-)

way cool solo, man.

Hey I'm going to be in your neighborhood Wednesday (day after tomorrow). You want to slam down a few beers and argue about easter bunnies? :-)

Is there a jam session you go to, or a place where live music happens?

I friend of mine may have started his up on Wednesdays, I'll find out. I won't be around though (sacrificing virgins on Wednesday) LOL . . .

LOL . . . you know we can't have fun here without bloodshed!
btw - I liked your playing a lot, you have conviction and self-confidence . . . excellent chops to boot.

I don't have a youtube vid but here is a cool intro I did years ago (don't mind the buzzing snare drum . . . idiot drummers yeesh)

Hmmm... I didn't think devil worshipers were allowed to play slide guitar.
Pretty good, Etu.

Sean!

You can be quite Van Halen like, and still have your own thing going on.
Like Vitto Bratta - he was very Van Halenish, but put his own stink on it. More melodic to me.

Fast Forward to about 2:14 if you just want the solo:

funny how these threads always self-destruct.

Sean - good chops - but as I said last year, you still have an annoying bad habit - after every little lick, you do a neck wipe-down.I counted no less than 14 in a minutes time. That's like one every 10 seconds... I found myself anticipating the next one - hard to concentrate on the solo with all that anticipation.

But rock on. I'm glad you're still actively playing. How's the band situation these days?

Chris!

I fly in Tuesday and will be in that area through Thursday night, if either of those work better for you. Won't break free until about 11PM to midnight on Tues or Thurs though.

I think your cute for a old guy, it's your story
tell it anyway you want. I'm not familiar with
your computer situation nor do I really care.

Fingerpicking gets old sounding to me, I can
fingerpick, but on everysong, why do I want
to limit my playing style on every song. Perhaps
you can't handle a pick, no shame in that. I don't
climb all over this forum telling everybody what a
good fingrpicker I am, when you can play like me
then you go ahead and judge me on this musician's
forum. All my stuff on my bandmix page is probably
over your head.

You know Capt Scott, I told my old lady I was up here
on the computer, and told her what I'd been saying on the
bandmix, she sais I was mean. I told her I'd said I thought
all your music sounded the same, kinda a Pink Floyd, Us and
Them, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb sound,
a sound that I think Pink Floyd created a whole new rock
sub genre with these(and other) songs. Then I told her
the next day how you'd written some remark about Pink Floyd
that eluded to this, we just smiled. I didn't mean no harm
just callem like I see'em.

Mo, if you couldn't sing I wouldn't even respond to you, but
you can. You might think I live on the darkside, while I think
all the prison guards, and sewer treatment plant workers resided
in the darkside. I think I'd go wash my hands if I was you.
Do battle? Is that what is done on this forum, I was just looking
to pick up a few pointers from some talented musicians and
maybe listen to some music from some unknowns, but do
battle. Is that how you big talkers are going to do battle
with the Muslims, you'll be fishbait.

Do Battle, why don't you play go fish.

Slacker I think I'll ignore you, I'm really only looking
for musical advice from this forum, and I don't think
you've got anything to show me musically.

You gotta call them how ya see 'em, you just shouldn't go out of your way to see em or call em.

lol

(Any and all of the music I participate in is accidental. It's part of the process of how we write. 1 part at a time and the finale is to connect the parts and "centrally scrutinized" for add(s) etc. No matter who I play with, it's a little different every time. Les just happens to push the PF button a lot and that's how I respond.

I am glad your wife/gf thinks it's all PF to her.
Somewhat surprising, but that's ok.

The next tune reeks of PF as well. I am trying to get off that rock, but it's harder to swim to shore than you might think.

Maybe the next one after that, "Visit". Then again, maybe not.

I don't really ever know what it is or what it will be until it's at least 90% done. All I do know is it's a speedy process and even on the proverbial conveyor belt, you get 1 in 50 or so..

I guess the best advice I can give you is to start the conveyor belt rolling and if you don't like it, move on to the next one.)

Oh and don't go picking a whole slew of fights..that's semi important.

You'll have to listen through the first couple of minutes to get to the solo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK1wrN7qc-8
but you can watch the lava lamp while you wait.
No shredding or neck-traveling scales, just tried to put the feeling of the song into the sound and notes.
