Considering doing "In the Flesh" as a show opener in Santa Ana on June 2nd...

Part of me thinks - "It would be a blast to do it with a little theatre thrown in, and it will get everyones attention."
The other part thinks - "Man... that's a bad idea, and 'possibly' a dangerous idea."

To go to place where no one knows us, and to kick off a show with something like that could either go great, or... pretty badly.

So it's a personal dillema, but I wonder... if you were pondering the same type of thing under similar circumstances, what would you do?

I don't think I know "IN THE FLESH" ... but I have always believed in going with my first instinct.

Sans it's the intro to last Floyd album worth the $$. imo The Wall.

Are you going to do it the same as the original or do your own version? It's a great intro piece either way. As long as they don't think you're a Pink Floyd tribute band it'd be a cool piece to do. And it is fairly short.

I think it's cool, I'd be entertained for sure..

Who doesn't like PINK FLOYD?

I think people would recognize RUN LIKE HELL a little better though..

Here you go Sans:

A very audience dependent intro I think. I would want full payment in advance and chicken wire between the band and audience for this one. My regular peeps would not dig it.

gtZip,
Where are you playing in Santa Ana? If I'm free I'll come and check out the show.

Probably do it fairly straightforward, like the album:

Of course, using extra keyboards instead of a backup choir.
It would have our stink on it, but I'd like to do it fairly straight.

Heres the upcoming gig info:

I'll have to have the time slot put up on the site.

I love the idea of throwing a little theatre in...pretty much a huge part of my performance philosophy...Not sure about the song, though. Floyd is great and that's a classic, but it has a raw quality musically that may be a little abrasive (and certainly very abrasive as the lyrics go on...).

I have to agree with Scott about "Run Like Hell", but then, I'm biased-that's my favorite Floyd tune.

Yeah, the lyrics are the dangerous part.

That's the kind of song that a non-mega band probably has to 'earn " the right to present.. IMO. I would not open with it. Although I really can see how tempting it might be...

...I assume but... I believe you should always go with your instinct. So for what it is worth do it...do the theatre...have some fun...it is a new place and you are unknown there so go for it...those who do not know Pink Floyd will be impressed and those who do will be also and anyone who knows the lyrics will think you to be "ballsy" and how can that be bad ? I personally would do it. Ta

I'd personally be hesitant.

I always start with the crap I know like the back of my hand.
(You cruise through it and it relaxes the mob)

In the middle or at the end, that's where I'd do it.

You could do a mini medley as well.
I don't know how much PF you know, but if you knew most of 2-3 tunes you could cover them back to back and segue into them whenever you liked.

(You know PF they just do wtfever they want and we all say "oh that was custom" and they meant to do that JUST FOR US and this show) lol

Feck with it a little bit, I bet you'd come up with something really cool.

(I never considered the lyrics to be an issue, but that might be because I don't know what they are)

I always like Dirty Woman, just a killer guitar lick to me, just have to sample the telephone!

Questions: how well does the song (and theatrics?) fit with the rest of your songs? What kind of audience are you expecting? Are you the headliner, or opener, or ...?

It's a great opening piece definitely sets a darker tone.
What are you going to follow it with?
