Hey y-all. Within 50 miles of my zip code, the are 164 musicians and bands with web pages on this site. EIGHT of those pages have audio. What the hell, it's a musician's web site, don't you think some clips would help you hook up with other musicans? Well, in some cases maybe not. Personally, I like browsing around and checking out bands from the comfort of my home in my PJs and bunny slippers and sh*t. It would also be really nice to have at least a slight idea of what I may be getting myself into before I haul my gear 35 miles to somebody's mom's basement or whatever. Any thoughts?

welcome to bandmix....isnt it everything you thought it wouldnt be,there are some solid people here who write and play music to a very high standard but it would appear that most of the profiles are just feck-wits who have little or no concept of music or life or just about anything, its safe to assume that if a profile has ten paragraphs of text saying how fantastic they are but no audio chances are they sound like a bag of cats drowning while trying to play a set of bagpipes.....welcome to the monkey house...keep an eye out for flying poo..

and, there are people with no audio because we our personal purpose here may not yet be to collaborate but to learn and enjoy the discussions. :)

- my car is in the shop
- I'm working overtime for the next 2 weeks. (Very popular excuse)
- I'm fixing my guitar
- I'm getting caught up with paperwork this week
- I have to go to a wedding
- I'll be at a funeral that day
- I can't make it because I'll be out of state
- my wife is sick
- my son has some legal trouble
- there's too much traffic
- I've been cleaning out the cellar all week
- I'm ouy of gas & the gas station is closed
- I'm going to (- pick a far-away city and insert here - )
- I'm trying to fix my computer
.
OK, you laugh.
Now how many people here have used these exact same excuses?
I've heard some of these excues twice, and some of these excuses 3 times.
.
You know, when people give me these excuses . . . I know they're excuses . . .
But, I play like I believe them. And my reply is "OK." And they think they've pulled the wool over my eyes . . .
. . . yesh, right . . . .
I never contact them again.
And if they contact me again, they NEVER again mention all their 'accomplishments."
.
Now; here's some HONEST translations of the excuses:
- I can't play that style of music
- I'm afraid of screwing up
- I don't care enough about music to learn any new songs
- I think my guitar is out of tune, and I don't remember how to tune it
- I don't feel like driving for 15 minutes
- I don't know those rhythms
- I lied. I've only been playing for 2 years.
- I lied. I've never been in a band, and if you hear me, you'll know it.
- I actually can't play for beans
- I only know 6 chords
- I only can play 4 songs, and not very well
- I don't think I'm good enough
- I'm real nervous
- The only song I know is "Knockin on Heavens Door;" with 3 chords.
- I have no calluses, and it hurts after 10 minutes
- One of your songs has a 7th in it, and I've never played a 7th before.
- I've never played in front of anyone, and I'll get too self - conscious
- I lied. My amp is only 3.5 watts.
- I've only gotten to chapter Two in the book "How to Play a Guitar."
- I've been learn on my 6 year old's kiddie-guitar.
- I don't want to be exposed as a fraud, so I can't be there.
.
.
Hey, guys, how'm I doing? Did I cover most of the excuses and real reasons?

I would say just about everyone in the book, RhythmMan. Damn, now that all of those excuses have been exposed, I have nothing left to use. Lmao.

Neh, actually right now I am having fun jamming on my tiny practice amp that I use on my First Act. Just learned the easy song Cumbersome by Seven Mary Three. So, I am having fun. Lol.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

i understand-- i just wanted to help out lurkers who might be reading this, so they know there are non-professional people on the site, and its ok to be a newbie.

im guilty as well of a few of rhythm_man's listed excuses. it sounds good AT THE TIME when you connect with someone (usually over cyberspace). delusions of fame and visions of rock groupies dancing in your bed.
but when it comes time to turning off the NFL and sacrificing precious personal time on the weekend, it seems to be a drag. you have to really WANT it- how cliche, but true, for anything you do.

I've uploaded audio..

..

Alot of people don't have access to recording studio's etc, bare in mind how much it costs to record, and would only go in there if they were working with a band.

I don't know many people that would fork out $50p/h to record themselves play a random piece of music, just for shits'n'giggles.

That being said I've recorded alot of sh*t, but it's with other people due to my work, so I can't upload it eh.

Recording is very expensive to my knowledge. Look, it cost $200 and up for most self-recording utilities like the Zoom H2. So, I can see what a pain this can be. I plan on getting something on Ebay to record with, that or hope I can find the right hookups to make the Line 6 amp I want record directly to my computer. *Shrug*

Whenever I contribute to a thread here I try to listen to the songs in everyones profile who posts. It really is the thing I enjoy about this place over somewhere like Harmony Central where you never know who you're dealing with. This site is called bandmix after all and is primarily a place to meet other musicians. It's why I pay to be a member. I use the site to meet other musicians to play with and have made some good connections here. By putting my e-mail address in my profile I've also been contacted by several bands who browse the site but don't subscribe. Without the audio factor I doubt that would happen. By not putting up some tunes you're basicaly missing the point of the site IMO.
You can buy a $10 mic at radio shack and record onto your computer.

Peace

Hey, guys, I left out the one obvious excuse; "I ran out of gas!"
. . . and . . .
I actually DID have a guy call me up, and say he couldn't make it, because he ran out of gas!
! ! !
JEEEz-usss; GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
.
Now, are you ready for the kicker?
I asked where he was. He told me, & I drove there . . .
.
Son of a Biscuit!
He actually DID run out of gas! I drove him to the gas station, & filled a 2 gallon can for him, and we played later, for about 4 hours . . .
Don't that beat all?
:)
BTW, he was a real good guy, and a pretty good guitarist; but it was a 2 hour round trip for him . . .
.
Irminsul; Hey, I didn't know it was there; & I just heard it.
But, bare bones as it is; you're probably right: I don't think it will make the top 40, eh?
.
But . . .
When I listen to any music, my subconscious mind has a habit of filling in what it considers all the 'missing' parts.
.
And, I actually heard something there.
You didn't play it, but I still heard it, just the same . . .
.
Ok, my man, are you ready for this?
.
How about laying down a track of some fast, fast Celtic - type drums on top of it, and then listening to it again?
I don't know what they're called; that's your forte. I'm thinking of the big suspended bass-drum . . . pounded at a furious rhythm, with some beats accented much more than others . . .

Do that, (if you have access to the the beats), and you'll hear the song with a much different set of ears . . .
. . . and, I suspect that you'd get some of your own ideas about a much different direction for this song.
I hear the drums, an upbeat bass-line, and a simple melody to weave it all together . . .
.
If you have the time, and the inclination, try starting with the drums.
