Literally!

I was in the parking lot of the library, planning on checking out some DVDs, and some guy sitting in his car waved me down. He's a bass player, and he heard me playing in some church somewhere (I play in a bunch, I don't remember which one he was talking about), and he'd been looking for me for a month. He said he would ride around downtown, and try to catch me walking, which is kinda creepy, but there you go.

Anyway, he wanted me in his group, so we had a practice. Actually, we really just jammed for about three hours, but that counts, I guess. (It should.) It's just us right now, me on keyboard. He didn't know I played keyboard, he wanted me on sax, but I figured keys would be more helpful for right now, at least. He paid me just to practice with him, which is kinda weird, too. I didn't ask for anything, but I'm not about to turn it down, either.

I see all the topics about how hard it is to find a bass player, and maybe I'm just blessed like that, but I haven't had the problem. I haven't actually tried to start a band yet, so there's that, I guess.

Okay, maybe not literally raining bass players, but...

JA, this site if filled with people that want to bitch.

Bitch about politics
Bitch about their wives, gf, homo buddies, wtfever.

Don't let what people say sway you.
They say all kinds of negative things, myself included.

The point is to take what's useful and change it to your advantage.

Some of these will never play out at all.
Right off the bat, having played in church puts you a notch up compared to some other people.

Don't let them bother you, maintain your own opinion and "consider the source" for anyone that says anything because half of these MFers do not know the diff between their ass and the hole in the ground.

If anyone says "lucky bastard", they just wish they had the bassist.
It's a natural progression like "monkey see, monkey do".

If the first musician has a banana and the second one sees the first, well then they both want bananas.

Hmm yes. It is a big misconception that we bass players actually need a car or other mode of vehicular transportation for things like getting to gigs, going to the grocery store or just travel in general. The whole premise for owning an automobile is a result of generations of domestic breeding of the bassist. All the various species from the upright players, to the blues P-Bass breed, or even the spandex 80's "is your rig big enough" species have undergone very careful selection of subjects to continue bloodlines. Although domesticated for specific roles in music, and even cross-bread to produce multi-genre specimens, the one trait we all share in common is to own a car so that we can drive around downtown looking for you in hopes to flag you down for a jam session. Next time this happens, make sure to see the bassist's registration papers for authenticity of bloodline. Then you will know for sure if you are dealing with a registered pure breed, and not some mutt that was cross bread with a pan flute player.
